JAV New Release Watch: January 2023

Welcome to a new, hopefully, regular feature called New Release Watch. Here we will look at the most notable titles I have seen recently. From great titles you should definitely pick up, to interesting videos, to retro dives, and even to stinkers you should pass on. For now we will try out a system of Watch, Check, and Skip.

Our first title for New Release Watch is a banger starring Rei Kamiki. One of my favorite debuts of 2022, she is poised to be a big star for SOD and in JAV overall. Little in interesting gimmicks or play aside from the second using a bit of oil. It’s good because of how good Rei looks in it and how she well fucks.

This newbie is leveling up. So much more active and reactive on a whole. She seems much more relaxed and loose while having great sex. A lot better at sucking dick in particular. The last scene has the hardest sex but my highlight goes to the first scene. An extra long affair with choice shots of her fine tits and bouncing ass. She’s so pretty with such a banging body; if she becomes a great performer the sky’s the limit for this rookie. There’s a reason why SOD is already pushing her as one of their stars. It’s a series that Prestige seems to finally be realizing how good it is and is using more of.

A plot focused title it has Umi laying down the lay with her tiny little mouths, dealing with sex crazed cases, going undercover as a student, and a shocking betrayal. All fine stuff. I really like this series for how they play with power dynamics. But this title is all about the eye candy. Umi looks drop dead gorgeous. The formal suits she gets with the lingerie just peeking through underneath and the long dark pantyhose up her little legs. Complete with big earrings and her long hair up in a ponytail for the beginning. The outfits and makeup are all on point; Umi is looking her best here.  On top of everything is Umi and her haughty stern face and demeanor. So hot. While the sex could be better and Umi’s dom was a bit lacking outside of the intro scene. This gets a Watch from me for it’s fantastic eye candy alone. Hard to judge to say about this one. If this is your thing it should be a watch. Great outfits, good performances from great talents, and all helmed by a pro behind the camera. The only hang up is the central theme. For the general public I’d say your mileage may vary.

A high paced, high energy title. If you want crazy sluts being their best crazy slut than this is the title to see.

Yumika really steals the show here. She is unchecked and let loose. She’ll make some western pornstars blush at how wild she is. In one scene she is fucking a guy from above and she turns her head over to catch some squirt flying from Mao with her mouth. In one motion she turns back to only spit it out at him. At one point she even dunks her head into the pool while getting pounded from behind. Multiple times. This brand of wild might not be your thing but it is something to see. This craziness gets a Watch from me. At the very least see what Yumika is all about. It’s something else.

Melody’s return trip to JAV is our next notable New Release to look out for. Melody Marks first visited JAV in 2020 and was surprisingly received well for her short stint. So well she’s come back for a second trip. It’s rare to see western pornstars come to Japan to work in JAV proper and not just those cheaper overseas productions. Her title is a match made just for her with Rizu’s Slut Wagon series. The JAV counterpart to the Bang Bus this series sees women going out to hookup with men in the back seat of a car. Costarring the fine director Rizu. Shot in a documentary style. This is a loose and light hearted affair where the actresses let their hair down and just have fun being themselves. For this video we get June Lovejoy costarring too. A perfect match as she plays both translator and scene partner for the latter half.

I’m not a big fan of these types of videos or this series (same with the Bang Bus). The cars are cramped and their don’t have much room to really maneuver. The real fun comes from seeing the actresses be themselves, joke around, and have fun with their hook ups. For English speaking fans this video has that and we can understand it too. With June adding a much needed context while speaking with Rizu. As Slut Wagon videos go this is a solid video plus we get an English speaker. Overall I’d say it’s worth checking out at the very least especially if you are a fan of either Melody or the series. Hopefully we’ll see a third trip from Melody and with even bigger studios.

Next we check in with long time actress Minori Hatsune. This time in a gal themed video with a dark sun tan to boot. The tan look is interesting but I do like her sandy blonde hair. We start with a soapland mat scene then we get a hotel scene and finally massage one. Not a great video though it’s to be expected from a smaller studio. Minori is fine but it feels like she’s coasting now. We all wish for certain actresses to come back but sometimes their second go around can’t stack up to their first time. Minori was a star in JAV during her time with Idea Pocket. Since coming back she started with Madonna only to take on smaller jobs with studios now. Maybe bigger studios are no longer calling her up or maybe she prefers these lower key studios. Either way this is a disappointing turn for a former star. She had a release last year that was much better TOEN-71. As for this video it gets a Skip from me.

Sumire Kuramoto is next with a title with smaller studio too. Sumire shot right up the sales charts and into the heart of fans last year. I’d call her the next Ichika is she wasn’t still around and good pals with Sumire. The title starts with them showing off a really nice car before we get into the video proper. Another low budget affair but the difference between this low budget title and Minori’s is Sumire’s terrific energy.

Sumire can make even a humdrum title watchable thanks to her infectious energy. I love her beaming smile especially after she shoots it after a lewd little act and she’s got a nice O face. No Yuma Asami isn’t back. This is just a re-release of an older title from 2013. A quickie sex title about ambushing Yuma with sex. I thought was interesting to see pop back up. An AI enhanced video that up-res the dated video. There’s loads of older JAV titles still sitting in 480p and 720p that could really use the remastering. Why not reintroduce viewers to all the old stars of JAV in high definition resolution. Sadly the upscaling doesn’t fix the original video’s too bright lighting. If you’re a Yuma fan or someone who wants to check out an older title give it a look.

We close out with my favorite title for the month of January with Hana Shirato. Another actress who broke out in a big way last year. Finishing third in FANZA sales behind the likes of superstars Saika Kawakita and Ichika Matsumoto.  Hana is poised to be a hot ticket actress this year and I’m excited to see what she gets up to. Our title is a simple cheating video with Hana playing a devious woman who wants to steal her friend’s man. A POV and close up heavy title to start with lots of focus on Hana’s pretty face. So gorgeous with her very unique dimples, big cheeks, flowing long hair, and those beautiful eyes. What a good choice to focus on her face to start. That face is her biggest selling point.

We get a POV scene to start off, a closely shot BJ scene, loads of in between sex montages, and one lusty finale. All three big scenes are great. The intro gives use some great shots of Hana’s ample ass. What a nice medium snack coming out of her wide hips. Then we get the BJ and more focus on her pretty face. But it’s the finale that takes the cake. The highlight of the film and the hottest sex of the video. The scene goes harder and harder until Hana and the man are fucking right in the open with their voices on full blast. I only wished they got found out part way through the scene. That would’ve made it better. This gets an easy Must Watch from me. Hana starts off the year with a banger with Moodyz. I will definitely be keeping an eye on her and so should you.
