JAVs In Style: The Punk Phenomenon

Published : March 19th, 2021 Written by vienna

Hello everyone! Today, on the latest issue on “vienna doesn’t do drugs – or at least that’s what he says” we are going to discuss about social phenomena such as punk culture, its derivatives and how style, fashion and the rise of technology can affect porn, and JAVs in particular, as a whole. This may sound as an inapplicable problem to porn industry, but I think that is reasonable that such things, such as the ways to enjoy porn and the very forms they are conceived, can still apply to the everyday business that almost everybody on the planet conducts: masturbating. That is right. I think that porn can be influenced by almost everything that happens around and into society, thus making it one of the best medium from which to extrapolate a projection of reality. So enough with the chit-chatting and let us get started!

More than porn – Looks, lighting and social problems

Imagine this: we are 50 years into the future, cars are flying, provinces and the countryside are completely uninhabited, cities are suffering from a very urgent overpopulation problem and you, yes--you are still a huge JAV fan and enthusiast. You are still looking at recent publications, keeping up with the latest in Japanese porn, following the actresses, the studios: you are keeping alive your timeless pastime, which even today, after 50 years of climate change and delicate political crises around the world, is more alive than well. People love Japanese porn, they love JAVs, and they always want more. However, it is not as easy as you think: the cost of living has skyrocketed and you are still trying to carve out a marginal place in the society of the future. Will you be able to do it? Who knows, but at least you will have your JAVs with you for company.

Overcrowded buildings make the perfect excuse of numerous orgy all over the place. AVOP-107 by Studio Zukkon / Bakkon is a perfect example for that, showing off the actual dynamics involving sometime tens of beautiful Japanese women and, usually, just one lucky guy.

You can check out the trailer of the movie her:

Here's also a similar movie trailer, MIDE-726 from MOODYZ and starring Sakura Miura, which is a really similar movie, except it is more of a reverse-harem one:

You are probably living in a crawlspace with some illegal immigrant who does not pay rent, but you still have electricity. Turn on your super-sophisticated quantum computer and log on to ZENRA: it is time to watch a JAV.

And what are the JAVs of the future, you may be wondering? Well, if what we have said is not completely unfounded, and therefore JAVs are mere mirrors of reality, elaborated, built and designed for contemporary society, then the JAVs of the future will be dark (but not too much), cramped (but not always) and... crowded (almost always). Interested in the idea? Of course, there are already thousands (or maybe tens of thousands?) of JAVs that fully meet these criteria. You might not like them, but I am convinced that - if the entire literary output of the modern age got it right - then the image, the very snapshot of the state of the art of JAVs, will be just that.

Dark locations are the most highly rated in futuristic settings, and particularly cyberpunk ones. The mixture of extreme and accentuated nudity, together with a pronounced use of lighting that is never banal, and indeed always suggestive, makes these narrow corners the perfect places to represent the sex of the future. If you are interested, the above picture is from BNDV-00474, by Studio h.m.p. and starring Ryo Suzuka.

Does dimly lit porn turn you on? Certainly, they are a particular variation of modern Japanese porn. Instead, there tends to be a tendency to shine the light on the relationship, on the act itself -- on the relationship being consummated -- with the aim of emphasizing it, of course. However, if everything around is dark, and perhaps the bodies of the actors are dark too, a light more or less focused on the literal penetration or interaction between the genitals is generally preferred to an overall lighting. Let me explain: in the punk aesthetic and literary model, and particularly in cyberpunk, there are so many people now that body perfection is no longer sought; no longer are those perfect features once coveted and hailed. The bodies in a prototype JAV scene of the future would be very dimly lit because bodies themselves take on relative importance, preferring to leave more room for pleasure, for the lust of that instant.

Simply put, there are so many people that beauty (natural, but artificial beauty much more so) is no longer a rarity to be recorded and starred in. Much more importance (if not almost all) is therefore given to the sexual act itself, constituting the focal point of the sexual experience of the future as perceived by the viewer.

How can JAVs translate to futuristic standards?

Lighting is not everything. As we have said, clever use of distinctive costumes and settings always suggests an affinity of a particular film to a wide variety of genres.

Sex scenes share their prominence to almost carnivalesque costumes, ambiguous and fanciful attire, disproportionate sizes, and colors both vivid and tepid, which make the former even more enjoyable. The above scene is from TOR-53, by Studio GIGA and starring Emily Yaguchi in one of her most eccentric performances.

If you notice, this is one of the reasons why JAVs will, in my opinion, be the sub-branch of porn most subject to change due to advancing time, societal development, and numerous external factors not at all related to pornography. The abundance of films and their extreme diversification, as well as the studios' innate desire to experiment - but also the firm intention to remain faithful to the standards and expectations of the public - make JAVs the best medium to project the changes in society onto a form of entertainment such as porn.

Returning to the subject of costumes and environment: as you can see in the photo above, the excess is never enough, and the Japanese actresses are certainly able to represent the violent and decisive wave of punk: full-body costumes, mustard-colored clothing, strange masks that barely reveal the mouth (just to emphasize, as we said before, the only central role of the sexual act in JAV) and so on. I think the JAVs will be able to gradually translate to the time standards, plausibly (or not?) those of the punk genre thanks to their flexibility and inventiveness. In addition, the use of stockings, high heels, dark makeup and especially in black, characterize and emphasize the halo of anguish and disorder typical of punk settings.

Finally, particular and more specific variants that we have already mentioned in part, such as steampunk and cyberpunk (which is the most plausible sub-genre to be transformed into our everyday reality), could detect more or less consistent changes, in addition to those already listed and illustrated.

This is everything for today, folks. This piece was a little bit divergent from the ordinary, but I think this is a very interesting topic that can perfectly relate to everything including porn! Definitely. I really wanted to highlight how much influence the Internet and popular culture have over JAV productions. Which could be either a good or bad thing, depending on you.
