Intro to S1

For the people who might not know them, S1 No. 1 Style is a long-running JAV studio that first started in 2004. Since then they have become the flagship studio for the JAV maker juggernaut DMM. The studio is famous among JAV fans, and even casual fans may know about it. They might not know the studio’s name, but there’s a good chance they have seen one of their many stars over the years. S1 has had its hands on so many famous and notable actresses over the decades. So many names I didn’t even know shared some credits with the notorious label. Names like Rio (Tina Yuzuki), Yua Aida, Maria Ozawa, Meguri, Anri Okita, Tia, Syunka Ayami, Hana Haruna, Minori Hatsune, and on and on. They’ve had their mitts on everyone, so now let’s check all these famous names and see who reigns supreme on Mt S1.

Criteria

Before we look into the candidates, we need to discuss the criteria for this process. How do we decide who is the Greatest at S1, and what does that mean? Do we pick by most popular, the most videos with them, or the longest active actresses? Do we account for actresses who entered during the boom of the internet and social media, who will get a boost in reach and recency? Or do we just plain count their quality as an actress? All of this we will need to consider for deciding who is the S1 GOAT.

The Pack

First is the pack, the lower seeds to cut from the race. These names just didn’t have enough videos with S1 (under 50) to make it to the next tier. On this level, we are cutting famous names from the past, such as Risa Kasumi, Kaede Matsushima, Honoka, Yua Aida, Mihiro, and Rio (Tina Yuzuki). Older names people might not recognize now, who also had short stints at S1 or shorter careers in general. Back then, star actresses had shorter careers compared to now, many lasting 3-5 years at most, like Honoka and Yua Aida.

Better known names now, but who also had brief periods at S1 include Ai Sayama, Anri Okita, Syunka Ayami, Minori Hatsune, Tia, and Meguri. While they are well known, not as much for their time at S1 exclusively. The biggest name to cut in this tier was Maria Ozawa. A massive star during the growing internet age, she also got her start with S1. However, she only made around 20 or so videos with them, and I’d argue that she is better known for her work as a freelancer. She really took off after leaving them.

The Long Timers

Now for the borderline challengers, the long timers who were loyal to S1 for years. Lots of long-time actresses of S1 who have been with them for years, with over 50 videos to their name. These include names like Riri Nanatsumori, Fua Kaede, Rina Rukawa, Miharu Usa, Miru with Nagi Hikaru just squeaking in. S1 had long-term partners in Arina Hashimoto, Nami Hoshino, and Moe Amatsuka before they parted ways for other studios. Some names are a surprise to see that they worked so much and for so long at S1, like Ichika Hoshimiya and Mei Washio.

All these names have been with S1 for years, nearly half a decade for many. However, they just don’t reach the star power or the insane longevity like the others. Kiara Asuka has the star power and continues, but she did not last long enough. She hovers around 50 videos for them and was actually active for years before that. Kirara debuted with HMP and worked for them and Prestige for over 5 years before making it to S1, where she gradually broke through into superstar status. Quietly made her retirement official in 2020 after two years of not working in AV.

Dark Horses

We climb up with the Dark Horses, the actresses with strong but flawed cases for GOAT status. First, we have Yura Kano, who might seem like a surprise name to see here, but let me make her case. She has almost 90 videos with them and was consistently active for 7 years. A quality actress who debuted and retired with them. While she was moderately popular, she couldn’t hold a candle to the name recognition of the others. This next one had plenty of name recognition or boob recognition at least. Next is Rara Anzai/RION/Shion Utsunomiya. She might have changed her name a ton, but she always came back home to S1. Her slim figure, beautiful looks, and, of course, those massive mammaries made her an instant favorite among fans all over. While she has the star power, her lack of consistency puts her out of the race. Plus, she was a pretty poor performer, infamously so.

Sora Aoi

It feels wrong not to put Sora Aoi in the contender status; she feels like the S1 actress to me. She was one of their Day Ones, one of the first actresses to start for the newly formed S1. They used her popularity to jumpstart the label during those early days. However, as massively popular as she was, she wasn’t around for much. Sora became so popular that she started to break away from S1 and porn in general. Around 2006, just two years after joining, her AV work became more sporadic and occasional. She would retire unceremoniously in 2011 with around 50 videos with S1 under her belt. Just like with Kiara, their success got to the point where they looked for opportunities outside of S1 and porn. The lack of titles, consistency, and that she first became popular with another studio, takes Sora away from the running.

Saika Kawakita

Yep, Saika Kawakita doesn’t even make it to the contenders. She’s the most popular and well-known name in JAV today, but hasn’t been with S1 for too long. She was quite popular when she first debuted, but went on a long hiatus and didn’t really become a big name until her second try at AV. She just needs more time with S1, but I’m not sure that will happen. Many are expecting her to leave porn soon, with how popular she is, and that’s not fans just dooming. We’ve seen it happen with Kiara and Sora. When they get to their next level in popularity, they start to gravitate away from porn.

Contenders

Now onto the real contenders of the GOAT of S1, the heavyweights. Big names like Minami Kojima and Tsukasa Aoi. All of these names have around or near 100 titles with S1, and some rocket far past it. Very long runners like the timeless Aika Yumeno and her impressive 130 plus S1 titles, who is still running up the clock. A few names rise above the elite.

Saki Okuda

Also still running is Saki Okuda, the one who started this all, thanks to one commenter. She is also the owner of the highest video count. By my count, at this time of writing, she has 170 plus videos with S1 and counting. Saki is a legendary actress not just for S1 but JAV in general. She was active for years before she joined them, coming by the way of Alice Japan, which S1 poached from frequently. She has been active since 2011, so since Skyrim and Game of Thrones first came out.

Yuma Asami

For many, Yuma Asami is a hit of nostalgia for 2000s JAV. She captured the hearts of fans all over and was the entry door to JAV for many. She was also a double exclusive for both S1 and Alice Japan for years. Yuma had a lengthy career but AV standards but it was still cut short when she was diagnosed with cancer and announced her abrupt retirement. Yuma helped grow not only S1 but JAV in general and embodied the Idol persona. She’s a strong contender for the top spot.

Yua Mikami

Few have reached the popularity of Yua Mikami. If we look at overall popularity, outside of just JAV, then she might be the most famous figure JAV has ever seen. She blew up at the right time and place with the right background and right when JAV was peaking as a whole. She’s also a rock-solid actress. Fantastic body, looks, decent performing, and she was very consistent with S1. It’s hard to make the case against Yua Mikami. Many will remember Yua fondly, like they do for Yuma and the like in the future.

Akiho Yoshizawa

Akiho Yoshizawa has the years, she has the videos, the star power, and the quality. Akiho is only second to Saki Okuda in total video count, but doesn’t reach the same highs in popularity as Yua Mikami. However, she has ridiculous longevity and consistency over the years, plus she is a fantastic performer. The others can make a better case in one field, but Akiho has the best overall case for GOAT of S1. I am biased because Akiho is one of my all-time favorites all time JAV actresses.

The Debate

Now for the debate of who is the Greatest S1 Actress of all time. I think it’s a clear 4-way tie between Saki Okuda, Yuma Asami, Yua Mikami, and Akiho Yoshizawa. Saki has the longevity, the video count, and has been quite popular over the years, less so now in her later years. She has also been with S1 in their big moments for their big anniversaries. She is also the least popular of the 4. Meanwhile, Yua has the looks, the body, the years, the massive popularity, and the celebrity background that pique people’s interest. Yuma is a similar case to Yua, aside from the salacious background. She is, however, in my eyes, a far stronger performer and far more personable than Yua. Finally, there’s Akiho, who has the most solid case of them all. More years than Yuma, more popular than Saki, and more videos than Yua.
