This reads like a nothing-burger, to be honest. What has Saika done to deserve this level of scrutiny from tabloid outlets? It’s not as if JAV stars are vying for mainstream media publicity or endorsements or contracts from multi-national corporations; they are all D-listers lest we forget, who regularly do promos at pachinko parlours and in-person fan meetings. Real celebrities don’t need to do paid in-person fan meet-ups where they get up close to the plebs. Saika might have said one or two things in the moment that she might not have meant personally, but because this is the tabloid press, of course it’s gonna be blown out of proportion. Saika is likely like most famous and semi-famous people: she surrounds herself with an entourage of yes-people, and these folks likely feed her with and feed into the gossip, and these folks are most likely to stir the gossip mill and put stuff out there might appear in the wider media, to make themselves feel more important than they actually are. I’m pretty sure most of this stuff do not matter, and then there is also the issue of being misquoted and taken out of context. Saika has been top dog for a while so of course she’s going to be a target from various cliques in a competitive scene, but I doubt she attaches much value to being number 1 or thereabouts among D-lister's, because she appears to have ambitions way beyond AV.
The scary thing is Kanna Seto is just warming up. She just released perhaps her strongest video ever, SNOS-334, in August and appears to have gotten on top of the drama genre. S1 undoubtedly milked too much out of the fetish-themed free-form and POV videos, but now Setokan has gotten a grip on dramas, she can finally unleash her full potential. I cannot wait to see her in the hands of an Asagiri Jou, who’s got a special penchant for naturalistic dramas. Hopefully Kana stays healthy and happy and continues on this trajectory. And don’t undersell Saika Kawakita. She’s perhaps still the most high profile JAV star (she completely dominated TER2026) and is back to a monthly schedule, having just released a couple of bangers in quick succession. I hope Saika is far from being done.
Kanna isn’t just an “ordinary” JAV super star; her charisma is off the charts and can already be said to have transcended JAV. Her YouTube channel has already garnered over 45 million views, which is incredible for someone who’s not a mainstream entertainer. At this point I think it’s safe to say people aren’t just lining up for Seto Kanna the AV actress anymore, but rather Setokan the brand. I hope she leverages her once in a generation likability to become truly mega successful across multiple fronts.
I saw the trailer and there’s no way they can edit out Karin Touno without compromising the release almost in its entirety. She’s literally the co-MC of the production. Let’s hope cooler heads prevail and we get the release as it was originally intended, because we just got Bako Bako bus tour back after almost a decade, and this debacle - which is so unfair on everyone involved in such a massive production - would surely mean its end for good, because Moodyz would never risk a situation like this ever again. Bako Bako is perhaps the biggest (and in my view best) release of the year, so for it to be affected in this way would be a huge injustice. Let’s hope and pray.
I’ve been watching JAV for more than 15 years, and for me it isn’t even close: modern day is by far better. Make no mistake, the past has many classic moments and titles and especially stars that are eternal, but compared to today, the volume and spread of quality is just incomparable. The past (and here I’m talking about anything in the very early 2010s and prior) had a sort of innocent charm for sure and it’s fun to revisit from time to time, but I often find myself getting a bit bored after a while. I feel today’s super stars (the likes of Saika Kawakita, Remu Suzumori and Mio Ichikawa) and scores in between have a quality most of the older stars didn’t have, and that’s authenticity. They seem more present and happy to be doing what they’re doing, and I think that’s because the stigma that always surrounded JAV has largely subsided. Many of them now apply to do JAV and are often fans, rather than being scouted and then getting swept up in something larger than they had anticipated and ultimately getting in over their heads. These days as well even a moderately successful starlet can build a sizeable social media following, which means they can almost absolutely not be fucked with and abused or exploited or whatever. Make no mistake, the likes of Rio and Tsubomi and Yuma Asami are all timers whose works I will never tire of, and to their credit they don’t shy away from their time in JAV, but today’s stars feel more natural and more relatable than ever before. That’s just my two cents.
