I saw the trailer and there’s no way they can edit out Karin Touno without compromising the release almost in its entirety. She’s literally the co-MC of the production. Let’s hope cooler heads prevail and we get the release as it was originally intended, because we just got Bako Bako bus tour back after almost a decade, and this debacle - which is so unfair on everyone involved in such a massive production - would surely mean its end for good, because Moodyz would never risk a situation like this ever again. Bako Bako is perhaps the biggest (and in my view best) release of the year, so for it to be affected in this way would be a huge injustice. Let’s hope and pray.

I’ve been watching JAV for more than 15 years, and for me it isn’t even close: modern day is by far better. Make no mistake, the past has many classic moments and titles and especially stars that are eternal, but compared to today, the volume and spread of quality is just incomparable. The past (and here I’m talking about anything in the very early 2010s and prior) had a sort of innocent charm for sure and it’s fun to revisit from time to time, but I often find myself getting a bit bored after a while. I feel today’s super stars (the likes of Saika Kawakita, Remu Suzumori and Mio Ichikawa) and scores in between have a quality most of the older stars didn’t have, and that’s authenticity. They seem more present and happy to be doing what they’re doing, and I think that’s because the stigma that always surrounded JAV has largely subsided. Many of them now apply to do JAV and are often fans, rather than being scouted and then getting swept up in something larger than they had anticipated and ultimately getting in over their heads. These days as well even a moderately successful starlet can build a sizeable social media following, which means they can almost absolutely not be fucked with and abused or exploited or whatever. Make no mistake, the likes of Rio and Tsubomi and Yuma Asami are all timers whose works I will never tire of, and to their credit they don’t shy away from their time in JAV, but today’s stars feel more natural and more relatable than ever before. That’s just my two cents.

This write-up is probably very accurate in saying that Yuma Asami was an entry point to JAV for many. She certainly was for me, and to this day, almost 15 years later, she remains my favourite JAV star of all time. There’s just no way to overstate the impact she had. Certainly her wonderful shape and immaculate breasts understandably drew one in initially, but ultimately it was that incredibly endearing sparkling personality that stuck the landing and made me a JAV lifer. At the time I didn’t even think you could have that magnetic a personality in porn. I will agree however that Yua Mikami is probably the ultimate S1 actress of all time. To me she is perhaps the ultimate embodiment of erotic actress. In the years since her retirement, I’ve come to really appreciate her catalogue, especially the dramas (even though her acting was never that good): I think her body of work has aged very well and will likely continue to grow even better with time. (I very likely under-appreciated her while she was active, which is actually a pretty wild thing to consider, given her earth shattering impact on JAV, and let’s be honest here: Yua almost single-handedly changed the perception around JAV as a sleazy industry in which the actresses are likely exploited. She brought a level of class and polish and professionalism and marketing nous that has now become the standard.) It’s true she wasn’t always the very best performer, but what I’ve really come to appreciate about Yua is how authentic she was and how she always brought a sense of amusement at the antics of JAV right through to the end that always made her game for almost anything. We didn’t know how great we had it.

Man, I loved Nanami Kawakami so much when she was active. Yes, she overacted at times, but she was a genuinely tremendous performer and incredibly sexy from the start of her career right to the very end. In fact she just got better and more beautiful with time. She definitely had a few more years of greatness in her. Thank you for honouring her with this series. She may not have been the top of the bunch at any time, but she was a legend nonetheless and her career deserves respect and to be remembered for as long as JAV is around.

There’s no underestimating how incredibly hot Kana was during her first few years at Ideapocket. That bristling bush and enthusiasm, not to mention a seemingly genuine love of sex, left a permanent impression on me. It’s too bad she altered her appearance so drastically over the years and lost so much weight. I think success and having to live up to others’ expectations exacted a tole on her. Nevertheless, she’s an all time legend: at her peak, one of the cutest and most alluring there’s ever been.
