BREAKING: Riko Hoshino DEFECTS From SOD STAR!

Catch up on the most trending gossip that we had our eyes on in August

I didn’t expect this announcement to come quite so soon.

Earlier this month, Riko Hoshino took to social media to announce that she has officially left SOD STAR… the studio she debuted with, meaning she is no longer an exclusive actress for the studio.

At first glance, it sounds like a fairly routine graduation announcement. But there’s an interesting detail hidden inside it.

Riko expressed her gratitude to the studio SOD STAR for supporting her since her debut in September 2022. She admitted that she feels a little anxious about what comes next, but her mood is apparently still “sunny.”

In other words, she’s happy. And judging from the way she worded the announcement, this doesn't really sound like a messy situation with her studio. If anything, it feels like both parties have it sorted.

Because Riko's current situation is actually quite unusual. She tweeted that she still has plenty of JAV projects she'd like to take on, and if anyone wants to work with her, they can simply contact her directly through social media.

Now, that might sound completely normal to casual fans. But anyone familiar with the industry will immediately notice something strange. Normally, actresses don't ask production companies to send offers directly to them. They go through their agencies. That's the whole point of having an agency.

And in Riko's case, there's an important piece of background here: she had already announced that she left her former agency, Hanaya Project, and was working as a freelance actress.

So now she's essentially on her own. That, of course, gives her plenty of freedom, but it also creates a pretty obvious problem. Can a freelance actress without an agency consistently secure work with mainstream, censored studios? That's what I'm really curious to know.

If Riko manages to continue landing regular JAV offers with major studios, it could be an interesting sign that the traditional agency structure isn't quite as essential as it once was. But what if those offers don't materialize?

She may eventually have to consider switching to uncensored territory or launching her own fan club like Alice Nanase. And that's where things become complicated, because Riko has previously indicated that doujin AV isn't something she's interested in pursuing. So we'll have to wait and see.

Fortunately, AV isn't the only thing Riko wants to do. She's talked about continuing her acting career, trying her hand at directing, and eventually launching her own brand. Add her existing modeling and photo-session activities into the mix, and she certainly has plenty of options.

But there's another reason this departure caught my attention. Riko's exit means SOD STAR's famous “Four Little Divas” now have one less member.

And the timing isn't exactly ideal. Kominato has recently reduced her filming schedule because of health issues, while Arie Kamiki and Momona Koibuchi have already been in the industry for more than four years. That's in stark contrast with the situation a few years ago.

Back then, SOD STAR's ability to discover and develop fresh talent was genuinely impressive.

But look around the industry today. Other studios are constantly nabbing new faces. With new names competing for attention, a fixed extraordinary marketing budget to spend on… suddenly, SOD looks like it may have a generational problem.

Perhaps Riko's departure isn't just the loss of one actress. Perhaps it's another reminder that SOD STAR needs to find its next generation of stars!

Recently a number of US states and a few countries of note have enacted age verification requirements for adult sites. On the US front at least, legal experts both within and outside of our industry do not believe any will pass a constitutional test. However, since these laws currently are on the books and thus have the ability to be enforced, we are choosing to comply with them at this point in time.

ZENRA uses Bluecheck.me, a third party verification service, to perform this important task easy to install filtering software does infinitely better.

Information used in the verification process is not stored on our servers. Phone number and address verification is instant and uses database cross referencing (no calls, no SMS messages, nothing mailed to the address). ID verification takes about one minute and is performed 'blind' on Bluecheck's side where the ID is reviewed by someone unaware of what service the submitter is attempting to access.

Regardless of what method you choose, it costs you nothing, but does increase the cost of our operations in order to somehow make the internet a 'safer' place.
