With Japan’s population shrinking year after year, here’s a question worth asking: Is the JAV industry starting to feel the blow too?
According to veteran JAV performer Taku Yoshimura, that’s indeed the case & things are getting worse. So, what exactly is happening?
As per the legendary actor’s tweet, fewer newcomers are showing up for auditions these days. At the same time, the crew working in JAV production often have to juggle other jobs, making it increasingly difficult to keep everything running smoothly.

But the biggest setback may actually be happening behind the scenes. As Taku noted, Post-production companies responsible for applying mosaic censorship are struggling with their workload, and when that part of the process gets backed up, studios have little choice but to adjust their shooting schedules and reduce the number of JAV’s they’re dishing out, and that in turn affects the entire production chain.
Interestingly, Taku Yoshimura also touched on the growing popularity of fan-made JAV on platforms such as MyFans and Xfans. These creators seem to be doing quite well, and he said he understands why this side of the business is attracting attention.
His point is that the traditional JAV setup still has its advantages, but it can’t ignore what the newer model is doing differently. Both sides have strengths and weaknesses, and if the established industry wants to keep growing, it may need to adapt. I think there’s quite a bit to unpack here.
Most of our daily readers will agree that the decline in new JAV talent is already a real concern. I’ve also heard that fewer newcomers are coming forward for auditions.
But is the falling birth rate the only reason? I don’t think so.
The industry has also faced tighter regulations, controversies involving so-called “shadow contracts,” and growing competition from influencers who have found ways to make substantial income through fan-exclusive platforms like Fantia.
I’d agree that newer talents would spend years trying to break into the traditional industry if an easier alternative appears to offer greater control and potentially much higher earnings.

Then there’s the production slowdown itself. Shooting schedules take a while now after the new AV law came into effect, and some studios are reducing production volumes. For example, a major newcomer expected to debut with S1 recently appeared to have her release delayed by around two months, with schedule adjustments cited in promotional materials making it a less cherished option
Fan-exclusive content is overflowing. With fewer restrictions than the conventional JAV industry, it has attracted creators and performers looking for new opportunities. Even well-known director Samoari has reportedly shifted his focus toward doujin AV.
For performers such as Taku Yoshimura and Yuki Yuduru, who already have name recognition and established followings, this growing market could mean plenty of work.
But the real question is whether the traditional JAV industry can adapt quickly enough to compete with the new alternatives.
