What’s the Deal with Butts in JAV?
If you know me you know I love butts. I’ve written about it plenty like in my Great Asses in JAV series. I love big butts, small butts, fat butts, tight butts, round butts, you name it. I also love JAV, and when the two combine, it’s a magical thing. But that doesn’t always happen. The Butt Game in JAV is pretty weak as a whole and some butts are downright tragic compared to their Western counterparts. So, for today, we’ll look into why that is.
Size Does Matter
Simply put, the biggest difference between Japanese and Western butts is how big they are. Honestly the easiest and easiest way to get a nicer butt or just have a visible butt is to be heavier and bigger. The average Japanese woman is shorter and lighter, being around 5’2”/157 cm at 116 pounds/53 kg. While your average American woman stands at 5’3.5”/161cm at 170 pounds/77 kg and women in the UK average to 5’3.8”/162cm at 155 pounds/70 kg. So, they are working with less junk in the trunk and in a smaller car chassis.

Diet and Exercise
There are a number of reasons why Japanese women are smaller, from genetics to diet to lifestyle. Japanese people consume a lighter caloric and fat diet and are more active. So not only are they less sedentary, they also consume less too. Resulting in lower BMI and body fat compared to some Western countries.
Plus Size Culture vs Thin Waist Culture
We should also note the cultural element to all of this, as Western culture is more accepting of bigger bodies, especially with the recent body positivity movement. Not only that bigger bodies may be seen as more desirable nowadays. Lots of people want a bigger/better ass. Some of the most popular female celebrities are known for their prodigious posteriors, such as Kim Kardasian, Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, and so on. On the flipside with Japanese culture and beauty standards that favor slimmer and smaller figures. I have seen quite a few JAV actresses who are already slim or skinny say they want to lose even more weight.
Work it Out
Now body weight is one thing but there are other ways to get a nice butt and that is to hit the gym. Glute bridges, squats, lunges, deadlifts; there are all sorts of ways to tone that tushy up, but they are just not being used in Japan nearly enough. Once again, we hit the cultural beauty standard counterculture, where women are discouraged from bulking up and getting more muscles. There are very few muscle girls in JAV; it’s quite rare. When you do see fit actresses, they usually have low body fat and focus on their midsection (abs are awesome, no complaints there).

Lack of Western Technology
There are other ways than eatting and exercise to get a booty, and that is to cheat. The open secret of Pornstars butts are the ass enhancement jobs they get and yes, they do enhance it. Stars like Violet Myers, Lily Lou, Lana Rhoades, Lela Star, and Mia Malkova, to name a few. They make use of butt mods with procedures like fat transfers, insertions, implants, and the infamous Brazilian butt lift (BBL).
Whatever black magic the cosmetic surgery industry has thought up of, we don’t see these Western technologies as much among JAV actresses. And when you do have enhanced butts in JAV, they never go that big or fat as they might with boob jobs. It’s a hard truth but Ass fans live in the shadow of Boob fan’s. The world has long loved boobs over butts which is reflected in our own survey earlier this year. When we look into JAV we see the torrent of boob focused titles and actresses vs ass. What are JAV scouts looking for in newbies? Huge tits or slim waists with big boobs. However, in recent times, attitudes have been changing worldwide. A Pornhub x Youporn survey in 2014 showed the split in interest in 2014 and in 2024 we see how the term “Big Ass” has leapfrogged over “Big Tits” in popularity. This is true for the West, but that trend has yet to seep into Asian culture sphere and certainly not JAV, not yet at least.

So This is the Deal
So, in conclusion the reason why asses in JAV can be so weak is because of physical differences, diet and lifestyle, and cultural. They are smaller, lighter, beauty standards discourage it, it isn’t seen as desirable, and they don’t make use of modern ass technology. Meanwhile Western pornstars have such great asses because they are bigger and heavier while focusing more on the lower halves when exercising. In addition, they make use of cometic surgery and it is cultural desirable nowadays to have a big butt (thanks Kim K).
Do The People Even Want It
Now I can already hear the counterarguments. “We don’t want the *insert mean fat comment about Pornstars”. As this might be something that JAV fans might be fine with, and I get it. Lots of people like JAV because of what it isn’t compared to Western pornography. Many enjoy the slimmer bodies, less tattooed skin, less (obviously) enhanced figures, more traditional-looking faces, and so on. But I don’t think this is an either-or situation where the options are mutually exclusive. You can have better butts in JAV while keeping it the same.
