Lovejoy Tour Experience with June Lovejoy
For first timers or even repeat visitors to Japan there will always be something new you can experience and it helps to have a local guide. June Lovejoy, freelance JAV actress, creator, Pokemon nerd, indie animation lover, and lover of Japan culture is one of those local guides! I went on Lovejoy Tour recently and will share my experience with you from applying for a tour to ending the night with June on the streets of Shinjuku eating a kebab.

After I sent in the application form June emailed me a Google Doc where they would post information of places to visit and dates they can meet up. Once I chose a date and sent in the 10,000 yen upfront non-refundable fee to start planning June started working on my Lovejoy Tour. June also asked if I had a preferred time and I suggested meeting at 20:00 for a 2 hour tour, which is how long the 10,000 planning fee included; there was an additional 5,000 yen per hour if I wanted a longer tour. I wanted to meet at 20:00 as it would be late enough in the day where much of what I wanted to do during the day on my own, like shopping and eating, would be done and not too late in the evening to meet up.
If you'd like June can also be hired at 5000 yen an hour to help you get reservations and make an itinerary for you which doesn't require them to be there. This is very helpful when certain events or restaurants require a Japanese phone number for confirmation or to be called in.
On the tour June can also take photos/videos of you to remember your time on Lovejoy Tours and with you too of course!
June quickly worked on the Google Doc suggestion list of where to go with links to their website and costs too then let me know when it was customized to what I specified on my application. They were very prompt with suggestions and replies in our emails which is great for someone like me who likes a quicker response time. As not everyone wants to go to only adult places or only nerdy places I asked if June could suggest a place to go for both, each taking 1 hour each including travel time. It a little difficult due to travel time within the 2 hours planned as we discussed through email but June got it done! We agreed to meet at 20:00 at Succubus Shisha ABYSS in Kabukicho, Shinjuku for an adult activity then move about 7 minutes away to Cafe and Bar Aodai for a nerdy activity.
Abyss is an all you can drink bar where you can use shisha and is an all you can drink bar with women dressed as succubus.
Cafe Aodai is an all you can drink bar with a nerdy theme, including a special Gundam night for the date we chose. I know June is a big Gundam nerd too, from visiting Gundam Stores in Japan (Fukuoka) to visiting the biggest Gundam store in America (Gundam Planet) so it would be cool to meet other Gundam nerds and discuss the series in a comfortable atmosphere.
I sent June 14,000 yen as payment to secure the date and time which is also their hourly rate for going on the tour.
I wanted to be at the meeting spot early which was in front of the building ABYSS was in, in case I somehow got lost. As ABYSS was in Kabukicho it was easy to get to though, simply leave from the East Exit of Shinjuku Station, go forward past the giant screen with the famous 3D cat advertisement, and at the beginning of Kabukicho was the building. When I'm almost there who do I see? June Lovejoy who had also arrived early and even earlier than me! I noticed June had picked their glasses from Jin's which they had been debating about earlier in the month and complimented June on it.

As we both came early June asked if I wanted to start the 2 hour tour early and I said yes! We went up to the 10th floor of the building which opened directly to ABYSS. This would also be June's first time going to Abyss. I asked June as a favor to me to pretend I don't know any Japanese as I wanted to see how June would interact with those around us like if I was someone on the Lovejoy Tour who didn't know Japanese. One of the "succubus" employees approached us and asked us if it was our first time in Japanese but noticed her calling us "honey" and "darling" in English; being called "honey" and "darling" would be repeated throughout the night by the various succubus employees. She was a cute and sexy tanned gyaru succubus wearing glasses who would be our main succubus for the night named Yuzuha. She wore a tight and shiny PU leather outfit which showed off her thin curves.
Yuzuha sat us down at a couch with a table in front of us and explained the menu. After the explanation June told me the story the bar has on its menu. Abyss is in between demon world and human world which lures humans in with sweet smoke. It is here you can enjoy an experience with succubus you'll never forget. The more you're at Abyss the more you find yourself becoming a demon as your soul is taken by the succubus as you'll become weaker and weaker with each visit. It was a cool story you don't normally see on menus and made it a more interesting place to visit.
On the menu we also noticed a birthday option which said they'll draw on a mini ice cream birthday cake for you 2 days or 2 days after your birthday. So if it's your birthday and you go to Abyss don't forget to order this option!
We both got the all you can drink option but as we both work with our voices we didn't get the shisha, which is one of the main points of Abyss. The shisha is also how the succubus mianly interact with you by partaking of the shisha with you. So was going to Abyss pointless if we weren't getting a shisha at a shisha bar? It is what you make it and June made it fun without the need for shisha.
So if the drinks and the shisha goes to the bar how do the succubus employees profit? One way is to buy "chips" to tip the girls, 5 chips for 2500 yen or 10 for 5000 yen. I asked for 5 chips. They brought the chips which were laminated pieces of paper with a simple design. You choose the succubus you want to give the chip to by folding the laminated piece of paper then give it to the succubus of your choosing. The chips were also a way to encourage the succubus to come to us since we didn't get a shisha.
Another option was taking a Polaroid with the succubus which you'll see later.
June explains to me the tours they do include going to places similar to Abyss, where you go and enjoy drinks but the women working the floor don't earn from you drinking constantly but through options like the chips at Abyss. You need to give something to them so they give you attention which many who go on the tour don't seem to understand. I compared it to strip clubs where to get attention you need to show or give notes which June agreed with.
June also mentioned how the rates for the Lovejoy Tours are higher than other guides but as you can see one of the reason is because June can take you to places others won't normally go, namely the adult places like oppai pubs and strip clubs where June can also interpret for you. You don't have to go to adult places though so why choose June? For me it's also the fun and experience only June can bring as someone who can freely speak their mind, brings you to comfortable places you'll both enjoy, ask questions you wouldn't feel comfortable asking normally at such places (including sexual questions), wants to make sure you have a good time, trust you won't be taken advantage of, is a hard worker, a wonderful person to be around (as you'll read soon), and more. You could even discuss June's experience in JAV if you'd like!
Yuzuha asked if we wanted a succubus or incubus card. The reason being they're point cards for Abyss and other succubus locations in Japan. According to the story each time you visit the cards get stronger and stronger so you can "evolve" the cards and get new cards with "stronger/sexier looking artwork" when they reach certain point levels which is cooler than your standard point card. At the same time she took our drink order.
After Yuzuha was done explaining everything I told June she deserves a chip which June agreed to as well. I gave June our first chip and Yuzuha was happy when we mentioned how great she's been explaining everything to us and deserves it. June asked how we offer the chip and Yuzuha explained you can pass it from your mouth to hers, placed in between her breasts, or tucked into the bottom side of her outfit. This was quite interesting, sexy, and fun to do which June was excited for. We noticed she was wearing Anoko on her lanyard. If you don't know Anoko it's a popular chimera/nue type character from the popular series Chiikawa. It also happens to be June's favorite character too, having a sticker of Anoko on their phone case in fact! This brought up lots of conversation between June and Muu, so much so Muu showed June her personal mini shrine to Anoko in her home. June's and Muu's big smiles discussing their fandom lit up our little area of the room.
When Muu asked me who my favorite character was I said it was Usagi, which is not only the funny and gluttonous rabbits name but also the Japanese word for rabbit. I did my best imitation of Usagi which brought out a laugh from Popo, "Huhhhh!?"
I love the hint of cleavage which you can see through her top so you know where her chip went!
The next succubus to visit was Popo who spoke some English. She also was quite conversational as we talked about her love of Baby Finn from Adventure Time who was hanging off her lanyard. June and I both loved Adventure Time and we started talking about it. One of the bigger points of the conversation was Baby Finn's famous dance which Popo immediately danced to like Baby Finn when it was brought up and soon enough me and June were joining in on the dance.
I was so happy from the dance I did the mouth to mouth chip giving with Popo.
Both June and I were interested about the long object each succubus was wearing and turns out it was their own personal shisha mouthpiece which was longer than the disposable versions on our table. June mentioned they looked like little light sabers from Star Wars and Popo's eyes lit up. She waved over another succubus, Erena, whose eyes also lit up when she was told they looked like light sabers and laughed. They "unsheathed" their shisha mouthpiece from their lanyard and started waving them around at each other in a pretend light saber battle which was very cute. Popo took our drink order next when she noticed our cups were near empty.
Erena soon took over and she could also speak English. While her English wasn't fluent it was good enough to hold a conversation with any English speaker. So while I can't guarantee there will be an English speaker at Abyss when you go it's good to know there is!
I did note Erena was the bustiest succubus there with nice underboob which you can see due to her outfit. She also stood out with her bright pink hair.
We talked to Erena about all the stuff on her lanyard and it turns out she makes her own little buttons and acrylics which she sells to fans. Not only that but fans give her homemade acrylics too.
As Erena had the biggest bust there was only one way to give her a chip, folded up and going in between her bust.
As time was running out for our 1 hour of drinks Yuzuha came by for our last order. After she brought our drinks and we finished it off it was time for something June and I discussed earlier as a nice way to remember my time at Abyss, a Polaroid photo! Though what would make it even more fun? By having a Polaroid taken with all the succubus! We all moved to the elevator where the photo would be taken and when the time came to pose I couldn't think of what to do and asked June. They replied back saying a "surprised look."
After the Polaroid was taken I asked if all the succubus could sign it which they happily did; Muu even drew a cute border on the front of the Polaroid.
The bill was handed over and I paid for myself and June's portion which is part of my responsibility for the Lovejoy Tour. So if you're planning to do the Lovejoy Tour as well be sure to take this into account when you choose the activities you're doing together with June.
June enjoyed themself at Abyss and noted how the succubus acted like themselves, had fun, and it no specific theme other than dressing as sexy succubus which led to a more relaxed atmosphere.
We go downstairs and I remarked how was it possible for people who casually walk on the street even know about Abyss as they get tourists too. We brought it up with one of the succubus who said they see the store ad on street level and go up to the store after they do. Turns out we missed the sign which you can see from the picture above with Abyss advertised on the top right hand corner of the store listings.
Now it was time to go to Cafe & Bar Aodai for the Gundam meetup. As this was June's first time to go too they were navigating the streets of Shinjuku to get us there. Along the way we passed by this cheap kebab store, only 350 yen for a kebab sandwich, and talked about maybe going to after Aodai which was close by.
We soon arrive at the building Aodai was in and went up the elevator which opened up to a floor with multiple bars behind closed doors. Soon enough we found Aodai and walked in to find a dimly lit bar with various drinks lining the bar tabletop, lanterns decorating the ceiling, various game merchandise decorating the back wall, and autographed boards hanging along the walls.
What we didn't expect to find though is an empty bar except for the bartender. Maybe we came too early? Both of us sat down at the bar and the bartender gave us the menu for the all you can drink which we requested.
After we put in our order we asked if we could take pictures of the cool bar. As you can see there's lots of Final Fantasy merchandise decorating the walls as one of the more popular meetups at Aodai is Final Fantasy 14 which is a very popular online game. People who play online games sometimes like to meet up in real life to talk and enjoy each others company and Aodai is one of those places.
When our drinks were ready we sat back down at the bar and did the customary toast in Japan before we started drinking, "Kanpai" (Cheers)!
We soon finished our drinks and decided on another. June saw the butterscotch milk drink which was on the top of the list and something not commonly found in Japan so we both ordered it. The taste of the butterscotch drink had a sweet caramel taste which was mellowed out with the milk. It was so tasty we ordered the drink the rest of our time there. We had a casual discussion for the rest of our time together at Aodai. June liked the vibe of Aodai, the good price for the all you can drink plan which is normally a little pricier elsewhere, and the decorations were great so they plan to come back again to Aodai in the future.
After having so many drinks in the past couple of hours you end up having to use the bathroom and the bathroom at Aodai was quite a sight to see with the EORZEA CAFE decorations featuring Final Fantasy artwork lining the top of the walls and the popular creature Carbuncle next to the sink.
We struck up a bit of conversation with the bartender who said it has been a pretty slow night and we talked about Gundam a bit with her. We also learned the bar was frequented by voice actor, pro gamers, model, influencers, streamers, and musicians. During our hour there there was only 1 other person who came in after us and left before us who seemed like a regular there. As we finished the hour of drinks I paid for June and I then we left Aodai.
Having recalled the kebab sandwich restaurant we walked back to it. We each ordered a kebab each, mine with garlic sauce. June ordered first and in 1 minute the kebab was served. We said our goodbyes and June left with kebab in hand to go home while I waited for mine.
Was the Lovejoy Tour worth it? I believe so! While the cost is high when you include the cost of the planning the tour and the activities from it, having June as your wonderful guide makes it an experience you'll remember and experiences are priceless. You can customize the tour so you don't go to places which won't be as costly of course too, like going to shrines/temples in Asakusa to collect goshuin (AKA shrine seals) or checking out the Gacha Pon Store in Akihabara; both activities suggested to me by June. Of course being a fan of June is a big plus too as we get to enjoy each others company in a more relaxed setting where June isn't working, except for being your guide of course, and we can take our time talking about a range of topics since we had the 2 hours together. June is an excellent conversationalist and can even make an introvert like me talk constantly along with others around us, like the succubus at Abyss and the bartender at Aodai.
