Korean Porn: K-Porn sets its sights on JAV

Professional porn in Korea is still in its nascent form, with few sites trying hard to take root. Not to mention the Korean amateur scene that’s propped up thanks to the OnlyFans revolution and their endless copycat platforms. JAV viewers will be familiar with the mosaics used in their videos, as Korean porn is sadly censored too. So aggressive are their censors that some sites will even censor cum. The Talent

Now, the talent pool in Korean porn is a mixed bag and nowhere near the level of JAV, which is understandable as JAV has had decades to develop, market, and scout for their talent pools. For the Korean talent pool, there are lots of girls with obvious plastic surgery, boob jobs, and tattoos. I’d say it’s comparable to TAV’s (Taiwanese Adult Video) talents. Just trying to find women willing to appear in their videos. Expect a few masks and censored faces as women and men are not as comfortable showing their faces yet. However, the talent pool isn’t reserved for Koreans only, as I have seen Korean, Chinese, and Japanese women take part in their videos. Speaking of Japanese performers, we will see quite a few familiar faces in K-porn.

The Japanese Connection

Recognizable faces like Mao Hamasaki and Sarina Momonaga have popped in to do scenes for Korean sites. Rei Kamiki also appeared in a fan event in Korea sponsored by Playjoker a few years back. However, it’s the men in JAV that are really making themselves known. JAV actors from Genjin Moribayashi, Bokki, Kuroda, Taku, and Masahiro Tabuchi are appearing all over K-porn. The actors are absolutely taking this opportunity to work and pork Korean women.

And it’s not all take and no give, as figures from JAV are more than ready to reach out to a Korean audience. We have Genjin Moribayashi, who has taken an ambassador-like role in promoting AV. There’s the Korea-loving (Koreaboo) Yuna Ogura, who has made the country her point of focus with many of her activities outside porn. She even won a small award for entertainment back in 2023 for her efforts. Toru Muranishi was seen in an interview with Korean adult filmmakers, recounting his own experiences during the early years of the Japanese porn industry.

Difficulties for K-porn

The industry is trying to take off despite the legal gray areas and pushback from anti-porn groups. Play Joker tried to get an adult festival off the ground called K-XF Adult Festival 2024, and it was shut down after protests from anti-porn groups made it so that no venue would open its doors to them. That award that Yuna Ogura won wasn’t without its hassles, as K-netizens complained about a foreigner and an adult actress winning.

More Competition for JAV

This all sounds fine and dandy for K-porn, but what does this mean for JAV? I’ve talked about the rising competition JAV faces from other markets such as TAV, and now you can add KAV to the race. Not only do they have competition at home with the rise of Amateur porn. The barrier to entry into porn no longer needs to go through the professional channels, as people are starting it themselves. Amateur porn also threatens JAV from within, as performers recognize the power of personal accounts and flock to platforms like Fantia or OF.
