It’s always fun when JAV crosses over to the mainstream. Of course, those opportunities are few and far between since there are regulations that need to be taken into consideration in the production of such programming. But when they find a way to do it, it’s quite titillating to watch our favorite JAV stars in a non-explicit setting. I remember seeing Tsukasa Aoi in Terrace House, Yuna Ogura in Naked Director, and Nanami Kawakami in Tokyo Vice… These little cameos where the production teases us with “I know you know where you’ve seen her” is just a treat for us fans.

Kiss or Die is an upcoming ad-lib comedy series releasing on Netflix this September 9, 2025. The show has a very exciting concept: an ad-lib comedy series that puts seasoned comedians into an improv narrative where they are constantly seduced by JAV actresses. The competition? The comedian who resists temptation and finds the right timing for the best kissing scene wins. Those who succumb to the JAV actress’ charms, and end up with a lame “kiss” get eliminated. The comedian casting seems star studded. Though I'm not really updated on the current generation of Japanese, they look hilarious enough that I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. One guy looks like budget Taku Yoshimura, and the other guy is apparently a big Mana Sakura Fan. With a sprinkling of legit dramatic actors, and amusing commentary from a panel, it’s a very interesting combination of JAV pop and porn culture crossing over to each other!

Power Ranking the JAV Stars

So to give a preview for the series premiere, I decided to write an article about power rankings of the guest JAV starlets who will appear in the reality series. I haven’t seen the show yet, unfortunately, so these rankings are based on my own biased impressions on the actress and their branding. I try to foresee who will have the best impact in three aspects that I feel are relevant to Kiss or Die’s concept. These are: Humor which represents the actress’ comedic timing which will be relevant in her interactions with the comedian, Seduction which is about her powers of seduction, and Charm, a sort of catch-all term relating to the intangibles of charisma. I’ll also be adding a JAV movie of theirs, as evidence of my own personal ranking of their skills.

Mary Tachibana - The Powerhouse

Starting with the JAV actress who had the best cut in the trailer, I’ve always thought that Mary Tachibana is a natural comedian with a sharp wit and excellent timing, in a steaming body fit that has JAV fans clamoring for more. She’s perfectly cast for a show like this, and it’s evident in the trailer that she’s gonna bring in a lot of funny moments.

Kiho Kanematsu - The Ethereal Seductress

Kiho stands out as the untouchable beauty in the series. Hot as pancakes, she’s a constant contender in many of the popularity lists, so it makes sense for them to cast one of the top tier JAV idols of this current generation. While she’s a bit too green to make me confident about her sense of humor as of now, she’s incredibly hot so she could have an intense effect on her scene partner that could lead to humorous punchlines.

In my mind, she’s a reliable performer and she’s very game to play along with whatever, so I think she’s an underdog to watch out for in this series.

Mana Sakura - The Iconic JAV Cutie

Mana makes it to Kiss or Die, and I think it’s got great potential to be a top pick. Mana, aside from being an icon in the JAV industry, is also a writer. So she may have enough sense to move the plot along and find the punchlines in the scene. Plus, Mana has always been a good performer, whose performances have a lot of subtle nuance in terms of acting and sensuality, which means she can play the ‘straight man’ in the scene that her comedic partner can play with.

Plus she’s social media savvy, so she’ll be ready to play up the funny and the sexy for the show. Not to mention she’s got an A+ face card. Comedians beware!
