JAV Battle: Romantic or Heavily Wild? Part 1

It goes without saying, but a romantic, relationship-focused JAV leans heavily into emotional intimacy. Everything is about producing a scene that gives off passion and love, and doesn't necessarily put significant attention on whether or not the sex scenes are highly erotic. The sex scenes mostly serve a purpose, that being to demonstrate the maximum height of love shared between the actors.

You will see moments of the actors spending time together, going on dates outside, holding hands while walking around, teasing each other, laughing and talking - all the normal signs of a growing relationship between a man and a woman. These sorts of JAV are more about the non-sex side of romance and emphasizing it - it's great for making a relatable scene that watchers can put themselves in, and demonstrates that there is more to romance than just sex (but, of course, the sex is still rather important, since this is JAV after all).

Pacing is a nice benefit of romance JAV too, as everything is usually much slower, allowing the watcher to absorb things better. When things are slower-paced, every moment feels like it matters or is part of a whole, and things don't feel rushed or unfinished. This slower structure allows tension to build naturally, and instead of jumping straight into the action, it creates anticipation.

Each step feels like part of a progression, and also helps to make the experience more immersive. It gives time for watchers to take in the scenery and atmosphere. Compare this to a wild JAV where a story or romance might be completely non-existent - the watcher is probably only skipping through everything to get to the next lewd moment, whereas with a romantic JAV, every scene feels like it has a purpose, even if it's not necessarily lewd or erotic.

The best romance JAV treat the relationship between the characters as a slow build-up. We initially get to see the two interact awkwardly, before becoming social and then greater and greater friends with each other. All of it culminates with more romantic interactions like kisses, dates, and then finally sex. Seeing all of it happen really makes the sex at the end feel worth it.

Romance JAV also try to focus on presenting the watcher with grounded, familiar scenarios. Whether it be a romance between coworkers, couples, old friends, or everyday interactions that eventually become more intimate with time. By making use of scenarios that are relatable, watchers can more easily get invested into the movie without needing to adjust to unusual scenarios or over-the-top elements or acting - the context is immediately understood. With a realistic situation, the connection between the characters is also more convincing, strengthening the illusion that everything playing out on the screen is something a watcher could experience for themselves.

The content in these romance-centric JAVs makes the watcher's experience feel more personal. The movie frames things in a way that feel more direct, soft, and emotional, touching the watcher more closely, whereas a wild JAV focuses more on the lewd acts and the physical part of sex - romance, charm, and everyday interactions are an afterthought in that sort of movie.

We see the actress and actors interact with each other in ways other than sex or intimacy. While this type of JAV might not be as satisfying from a sexual perspective, it warms the soul with its more affectionate and personal presentation. You get to see them spend time together and witness a "real" romance that any watcher could experience for themselves. It makes the movie a lot more immersive and gives it depth beyond erotic visuals.

There are naturally weaker aspects to romance-driven movies, and the first is the obvious issue of pacing. You can watch two people go on a date, spend time talking, laughing, going out to dinner... sometimes all of that just takes up too much time. At the end of the day, the watcher views JAV for sex and perversion, even if a romance-driven JAV does technically offer more than that. Delaying the sexual antics for too long can leave the watcher frustrated or skipping through most of the movie. When the buildup doesn’t add anything meaningful, it starts to feel like filler rather than progression.

Another negative part of a romantic JAV is that the sex scenes themselves usually aren't that hardcore, explicit, or fetish-focused. It's more just passionate, vanilla sex. Hardly do you ever see more hardcore fetishes like bondage, and the penetration is typically not very fast or lustful. Sometimes you just want to see people completely devoured by lust, and that type of visual usually isn't present in this type of movie.

I would argue this is a smaller downside, but despite all the romantic, lovey-dovey interactions between the actors, and with it often presented in a way to make the watcher feel as if they were the male in the movie, the reality is that the movie is fiction. The "girlfriend experience" so to speak is just a fantasy and there's no real woman here - so all that effort, while stimulating and entertaining in ways beyond just the physical, could be described by some as a "pointless effort". To describe it in a more blunt way: "what's the point of pretending I have a girlfriend?"
