Lesser Known Hāfus in JAV: Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Filipino, and more

Hāfu (ハーフ) is a term for people who have mixed-race ancestry in Japan. Quite rare for a country that is so ethnically homogenous, and even more rare when they appear in JAV. We are kicking off our series on Hāfus in JAV by looking at some names that will surprise you with their ethnic background. We start the series on Actresses that you might not know are mixed, these are the Lesser Known Hāfus.

Ai Mukai, the plucky veteran actress who has been around for over a decade, revealed rather off-handedly that she was half Korean. In a series of photos on her social media, she revealed her background while posing with a bottle of Chamisul (참이슬), a well-known Korean brand for Soju. Despite their proximity to Japan, there haven’t been many Koreans in JAV as the number of Koreans or part-Koreans actresses is surprisingly low. In fact, with this revelation, Ai Mukai might be the best-known Korean in JAV I can think of. I’ve always thought she had a unique face compared to most, so her mixed-race reveal wasn’t a huge surprise.

It’s refreshing to see an actress be so open and delighted by her other half’s culture.

Fans might be surprised to learn that Sora Shiina is part Russian, as the tomboy of JAV revealed in an interview about her European roots in an interview with FANZA. On her socials, she describes herself as a quarter Russian American, which is a bit confusing. The small and spunky Sora has always been an outlier in JAV with her cheeky attitude, tomboyish looks, and open lesbianism. So this revelation is just another feather in the cap that makes Sora one of a kind in JAV.

With her tattoos, Gal style, attitude, and mixed background, Karen is one of a kind. On a sidenote, she can speak a bit of English, though, as shown on some streams. Half Thai or not, Karen is full Gal. Few embody the free spirit and devil-may-care attitude of Gals like Karen.
