JAV's Warring States period of SNS
There’s been one issue that’s been brewing within the JAV industry that has frustrated them and it has to do with SNS (social media). Accounts of JAV actresses, studios, and all affiliated to JAV have been getting banned left and right. Industry giant S1 even commented on the trend recently, even calling it “The Warring States period of SNS”. Let’s look into what’s happening, why it matters to JAV so much, and the wider picture.
The SNS Ban Hammer
Despite the amount of adult content you can find on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube, they do work at at tamping it down. Not eliminate, suppress. JAV SNS accounts find themselves under all sorts of different kinds of bans from those same platforms. Shadow bans, search de-prioritization, hashtag and keyword suppression, and many more other ways. Bans that effectively make it so that they are hidden from users or just outright delete their accounts.
Now why this is important because SNS is an effective tool for JAV to advertise themselves, reach out to fans, and give them a means to find legal options to purchase their merch. We are moving away from the days of putting AV girls on billboards and standees in front of adult shops. Having an account deleted or shadow banned, massively hurts their outreach.

Censorship Examples
Here are some examples of how JAV SNS has been self-censoring itself.
So much more of this below
JAV SNS is Different
To truly appreciate the difference of JAV SNS, here are some posts from a pair of well-known Western pornstars and social media accounts. You can clearly see the difference in presentation and intent. Very sexual, very explicit, full nudity, and some even post scenes. It’s clear these are pornstars and they make porn. Now turn over to some popular names in JAV and their SNS game.
Much cleaner, more buttoned up, less nudity, or just lewd images in general. Some SNS accounts don’t even show any nudity or lewdness at all. The most explicit these accounts get is when they link to their videos. If you were a regular user who came across these accounts, you wouldn’t be faulted for being surprised that they do porn. This is all by design; this is the image that JAV likes to present itself, and the added benefit is that it gives them a wider reach.
Take a look at this Saika Kawakita cover. Now she’s known by fans for having Safe-for-Work looking front covers that show no nudity or anything lewd. This cover looks pretty innocuous at a glance, right? Read the words, turn over the cover, and watch the trailer and you see it's anything but innocent.

Want Their Cake and Eat it
Many pornstars have given up on being shadow banned and suppressed by social media because they know it’s a losing game. However, JAV is built on a cleaner image and mass market appeal. But at a certain point, you have to ask if it’s worth the trouble. Fans are here to see pretty, beautiful women being sexy and lewd. Take that away and why should they stay tuned to these accounts? Take a look at these posts and you start to ask what even the point is anymore. JAV SNS needs to pick a lane; either go completely SFW or embrace the NSFW because this is a battle that never ends.
Bigger than porn
This is a trend that's been building against not just JAV but porn as a whole. Even wider than that is the censorship trend we’ve seen. You’ve probably seen posts of people self-censoring themselves. P0rn, s3x, seggs, unalive, strikethrough words, cornstar, emoji replacing words, and all the stupid ways people write to avoid Big Algorithm for silencing them. It’s something ZENRA itself has to deal with. The war against porn isn’t just against porn but anything deemed ‘undesirable’ and it’s a bleak future for the internet.
