Don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing… There is a flawed premise in this writer’s argument. He believes there is some form of adult entertainment with no story —- simply “two sets of genitals slapping together” as he puts it. Such is never the case. Always, always there is story! Humans are pattern seeking beings. We have no choice but to seek a sense of meaning in everything we experience — and adult entertainment is no exception. A storyline may be imposed, perhaps suggested, by the creator or it may not. If not, the viewer will impose one of his own. Some of the very best adult video imposes no story — so the best story comes out of the viewer's mind, his fantasy. And in adult video, fantasy is the coin of the realm. One of my favorite videos (and most viewed) is 12 minutes of a beautiful woman sucking a dick. There’s no more to it than that. As a U.S. citizen (embarrassing as that now is) with a Masters degree in Journalism and a speciality in First Amendment law, I favor absolutely no legal forms of censorship. On the other hand, there are obviously societal forms of self-censorship that sometimes may be beneficial. Some folks may be traumatized by the raw brutality of some news footage. Showing a terrorist beheading someone for effect would seem to benefit no one but the terrorist. Japan seems to have struck a bargain that has codified its societal conventions in adult sexual entertainment video. While this blog has not convinced me that legal censorship is good, at least I can understand how it strongly relates to Japanese culture. Thanks for that, at least.
