What is the Allure to Cheating in JAV? Part 2

A major problem most JAV commit when they depict cheating is that it doesn't actually feel like the person is cheating. Part of the appeal is when the cheating individual makes the decision - to cross a line they know they shouldn't cross. There is meant to be a sense of hesitation, several instances of temptation, and possibly internal conflict, but a lot of JAV tend to avoid this building tension. Many movies just bypass this altogether and handle it like they would any other scene, usually with the male just immediately going along with the situation. I get it, a lot of men would seize the opportunity to have sex with a beautiful woman, even if it meant betraying their partner, but part of the thrill behind cheating is the hesitancy and deep contemplating.

There's no real "risk" or "consequence" of this fated encounter, and it's like a normal sex scene in any other movie with no real significance. The whole cheating element is practically meaningless at that point. You're not watching the beginning of someone making a vital mistake, and the betrayal feels less impactful and real as a result. The JAV makes use of the cheating fetish, but doesn't bother to understand what makes it appealing. I get it, JAV is fiction and often tries to serve as a fantasy for watchers, so it's likely you'll get ones that emphasize the "sudden sexual opportunity you don't want to pass up" aspect. But, this doesn't truly capture the subtle sexiness behind cheating.

Cheating is a common fetish in JAV, and every time it comes up, it's almost always the same formula. There's some sort of husband and wife or couple that have a normal relationship, then there's some sort of opportunity or temptation, and the individual falls into the trap. Sure there's some variations: maybe it's a failing marriage, maybe the man makes the move, maybe the woman makes the move, but all of this has been seen a thousand times already. Predictability naturally kills a lot of the tension and drama, and those elements are vital to making the stakes feel real. Will the partner find out? Will the man stay faithful? These questions no longer become a concern to the watcher.

To go even further, I think there's lots of ways to insert variety into the formula. Get fetishes involved: maybe the person doing the seducing finds out the guy is really into one fetish? Or maybe they manage to convince the partner to get in on a threesome - or if the work in more story-focused, maybe introduce drama with a "potential pregnancy" or something. I don't believe a JAV could live up to the quality of a genuine TV show, but at least it would feel like it's actually trying to deviate from the usual.

Several JAV with cheating moments also fail to establish the presence of genuine consequence for said cheater. Some JAV simply have the cheating exist merely within the scene, never to be revisited again, as if it were some form of cute outfit the actress wore for the scene and that's it. That might work in the moment sure, but the real appeal is when there is an acknowledged risk or something at stake - something that lets the watcher know that the cheating partner knows that there are consequences, yet they go through with their deeds anyway. Hesitation, reflecting on past happy memories with their partner, or a slight change in the way they usually act - such a subtlety adds depth.

When it comes down to it, the thing that separates a good and great scene in a cheating JAV is whether or not it emphasizes that the individual is making a clear decision despite knowing the risks and potential blow back. The movie doesn't simply move on as if it were just some new outfit for the actress - it employs elements such as hesitation while the third-wheel offers moments of seduction to tempt the would-be cheater. The best cheating JAV have things start off slow and eventually build in tension, as the individual becomes more and more infatuated whilst still hesitant and worried about the consequences, before eventually submitting.

There has to be some clear display of the individual in question breaking their usual personality/character, where they treat this potential opportunity as some sort of major occurrence in their life. An occurrence that could very well change their life, for better or worse, solely on their own conscious choice. Of course, uniqueness helps as well. Throw in a random fetish or some other random story event that mixes things up, like the woman attempts to seduce a man and a friend suggests they all go to karaoke, where things heat up between the two of them. Any creative addition would help make the scene more memorable and play into the cheating element.
