Baked In Interesting question, but does it really matter? For the old-timer, a bit of a nostalgia trip. For the newest audience, the past means little. Overall, the adult video business is like baking bread. A new loaf just out of the oven, everyone wants a piece. It’s wonderful, warm and fresh. Tomorrow, it’s good. The next day, it’s toast with jam. What have you done for me today? The categories for judgement seem random and perhaps some even irrelevant. “Actress Quality”? The only actress criteria mentioned is physical attractiveness. There are always more and less beautiful women. What I want to see is in the name — actress! Can she act? Does she make a convincing show that she really loves sucking that dick? Do I believe she’s an animal in heat wanting that hard dick pounding her pussy? Some of the most effective performers I’ve ever seen have mediocre physical characteristics. It’s just like IRL — sometimes that not so lovely one in the bunch is absolutely the best fuck! “Access” When I was sexually primed I owned a small 8mm movie projector. The films I had came through “brown paper wrapper” mail order outlets advertising classified ads in the back of titty mags. To watch a little smut, I had to get the projector out, pin up a sheet on the wall, thread a movie through the projector and watch a badly lighted and grainy black and white image flickering on the wall in a dark room at night. Usually eight to 15 minutes. Today, I get much better content with a couple of taps on a screen anytime and any place. So, yes, better access, for what it’s worth. “Translation” Especially for JAV, subtitles are great, and it’s the value proposition for me with Zenra. JAV is generally far more story-oriented than other offerings. Also, the cultural norms are not always obvious to Westerners, so watching is a real handicap with no translation. I presume this will improve as I’ve seen some subtitling that borders on the imaginary — hard to see any credibility when a subtitle is offered and absolutely nothing was said! And maybe after I’ve watched 10,000 or so more, I’ll be able to speak Japanese. Already I know two words! “Capacity”? More videos per month? If so, does it matter to a viewer? The market value cited does not seem to support a fact that more videos are being released each month. Perhaps they’re just priced higher. The source cited says “...market size is based on the amount paid by consumers.” That number translates to less than $6 per capita per year, a seemingly paltry sum. If true, it would seem to suggest that a small segment of the market is responsible for a substantial portion of the total outlay. “Social Media & Contact” Yes, it can seem like contact with performers is possible. While it may be satisfying for some viewers, it is usually set up for the benefit of the performer — sales of merchandise or simply “tribute” contributions. I’m not sure it’s better. In my life there have been two or three actresses I was attracted to, and I actually had little trouble getting in touch with them — years before any electronic media came along. We had pleasant interchanges and in some cases became very friendly (never to the extent of sex though!). “Regulation” Government regulation will always be with us. Usually it’s more political than helpful. Damn that stupid pixelation! I personally do not believe this particular industry requires any more regulation than any other workplace. Anything plainly illegal should have no place in the system. Beyond that, c'est la vie.
As you might expect, I have zero appreciation for this. I see it as someone who has totally lost the thread. To me, this reads like a guy who went to a car dealership to purchase a car and has nothing but complaints about things that are irrelevant to the cars. The showroom is too big or too small, it's too warm or cold. The restrooms are too far away and unsatisfactory. The sales pamphlets have too much technical detail and not enough pretty pictures. The vending machine stole my Yen (not likely in Japan!). Those awful pens used to sign the sales agreements are an atrocious color. Zenra provides me with a reasonably broad selection of good JAV with an acceptable level of useful subtitling, since I cannot get the Japanese language no matter how I try! Some of the blog postings may seem a bit frivolous, but I like reading about various opinions on JAV differences from WAV, the ability of JAV actresses to convincingly portray orgasms, the prevalence of lusty and sexually starved wives, the uniqueness of subject and plotting. That sort of thing can be fun to talk about. Most industries have trade publications. They address the business of the business. Is there no such thing in the JAV world? Am I reading a trade paper and don't realize it?
Weird(er) is sexier? It may be so, but I think that's a very personal thing. There is no doubt JAV is "weird" compared to WAV (Western Adult Video), but I'll suggest a possible causal factor. I'm not Japanese, and my view of Japanese culture is purely from the outside looking in. What I see generally is an extremely uptight, straight-laced culture with almost no room for expansion. Like a steam vent in a boiler, JAV provides relief from the societal strictures that seem to bind people from the first waking hour to their first moment of nightly respite. Western culture is far more "anything goes," and you see people dressing and doing things that could never happen in Japan. WAV doesn't have to provide any sort of pressure relief valve --- beyond the pressure of getting off as much as possible. And what you do see in WAV is a large amount of genuine amateur videos, usually terrible in production values, but great in natural believability. You suggest most adult video is forgettable, but I have hundreds stored in my head, some going back 25 years or more. What makes JAV especially memorable for me is the weirdness coupled with the possibility of reality. While it's essentially boring, I love that video of hundreds of couples fucking in unison is what looks like a gymnasium. I also especially like the "dick pop up" vids where a hard dick will just come out of a wall in a totally unexpected place --- a market or out of a chalkboard in a classroom. I love seeing the women, surprised, yet turned on and sucking the cum out of them. Great fun, and it suggests a possibility that some women may really be "hooked on dick." Whatever the reason, I do love JAV for its uniqueness.
I reach back to 1956 and the radio drama "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar." A character named "Truthful Tom" says: "It’s an economic society, friend. We’re all in the market when the price is right." The monks mostly leave this economic world when they enter the monastery; the rest of us, rich and poor alike, soldier on. Why not talk about it? Good for her. And as for Twitter, I certainly wouldn't participate in such a pigsty, but I can understand why you need to from a business standpoint. You might also get yourself on the BlueSky app. You may find a classier sort of follower!! Thanks, as always.
Oscar Wilde wrote: "Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life." This makes me think about that. I've been with a lot of dominant women in my long years; not a single one ever put my dick in her mouth. I love watching a woman sucking a dick so I'm glad adult entertainment is not following real world domination. One of the most seductive characteristics of video female domination is that the women are sucking dick because that's what they want to do --- not what the sub wants!!! It makes the cock sucking a whole lot more believable when the woman is doing it by choice (even if that is scripted!).
