A confession of sorts: I honestly don't enjoy JAV that much. I do watch it on occasion, but hailing from a very western culture surrounded by very western people, much and most of the norms and standards and the 'zeitgeist' of JAV are not for me and/or go over my head. And I'm about as far removed from the parasocial relationships made (in)famous with the rise of Asian pop. Saying all this, it is so fucking fascinating and incredible to see this occur, especially the entanglements and 'transference' and 'counter-transference' between all the various entities involved (whether companies, actresses, idols, consumers, governments etc...) and this is where the Zenra blog really shines! Pieces like these, or even the gossip pieces provide such valuable insight to a world I would not only miss but be unable to navigate otherwise. The Jôsei-muke article is a memorable example. People wanna wank and rank I get it lol, but even the unga bunga inside us wants more than that. Seeing how that plays outside us with all the horror and colourfulness, through all those norms and standards and the 'zeitgeists' is just... so very! Much thanks!
