A New Age of Collabs: JAV Stars Sharing the Silver Screen
We asked and they answered. Jav fans have been clamoring to see more stars team-up on screen and studios have listened and are delivering. So what is even the big deal you ask, after all Freelancers work together all the time. Sadly, that isn’t the case for Exclusive actresses and especially so in the modern era of JAV compared to the past. It is looking like we are in a new boom of collabs between JAV stars and studios. So let's take a look at all the crossovers and what that means for viewers.
Inter-Studio Team-ups
Exclusive studios have been taking their huge rosters and having them play nicely with each other. We’ve been getting many more inter-studio team-ups with duo titles. They have also gone deep into their rosters for huge studio-wide specials. Moodyz brought back their mass orgy special with the return of Bako Bus, which is looking like an annual event now. Last year, S1 finally wrapped up their months-long special that involved nearly all of their exclusives. Idea Pocket chose not give us Beauty Venus 9 and instead gave us their whole roster in a special BV Harem spinoff. Even the mature Madonna opened up their massive roster to create a pair of orgy specials in recent years. With studios like Honnaka and Das getting in on the big Group Sex fun too.
Cross Star Collabs
While we didn’t get a BV, but we got the next best thing when Karen Kaede of IP and Arina Arata of Moodyz joined up in a video that was very much in the BV style. We got the rare collab Drama with S1’s Miru with Yume Nishimiya as two former schoolmates lusting over the same man. Meanwhile, Aika Yamagishi used her last full year in porn to collab with as many other stars as she could, including VR titles. Working with Mayuki Itou again, former fellow Premium star Yuki Takeuchi, and her best friend Akari Mitani.

SOD got in on the fun with a terrific collab between Riko Hoshino and Yotsuha Kominato, where the ladies got some girl-on-girl fun going on. While it didn’t live up to some fans’ expectations, just seeing Rei Kamiki appear with Suzu Honjo was a sight to see and not a bad video for what it was trying to do. Meanwhile, Momona Koibuchi had her first Lesbian experience on screen with the experienced Hibiki Otsuki. Fans were treated to duo collab gems last year over and over.
Studio-to-Studio Loan Outs
Collaborations came in different forms and not just stars teaming up. Studios loaned out their girls to others, like Mankitsu. The Moodyz sublabel, which specializes in Doujin adaptations, got a ton of work last year. They managed to bag Mitsuri Nagahama, Riri Nanatsumori, Momo Sakura, and Kanae Yumemi, to name a few. Mayu Shino of S1 dropped by E-body for one of their usual Gonzo close-up videos. Even Attackers loaned out their exclusive Yuri Hirose to Be Free of all studios. These are especially fun because it lets actresses try the different themes and series that are unique to certain makers.

What's the Catch?
You might be wondering why they are trying much harder now and I can think of a few reasons. First, many makers celebrated some anniversary milestone in recent years and did so with special titles. Moodyz, Madonna, and S1 all passed 25 years recently, for example. I think it also has to do with the poor economy and AV laws dragging them down. Dash in some competition from Amateur porn and Taiwanese and Korean Adult Video for good measure too. All of this is making studios work harder to make titles that will draw in fans. Doing well can mean being stagnant; doing poorly means taking swings and putting in more effort.

The Future is Collab
For whatever reason, studios are trying harder to give fans the sweet fan service they want, and it’s been great for JAV fans. With more high-profile actresses under exclusive contracts, this is a great trend to see. Hopefully, we don’t just keep getting more collabs but better and more interesting ones also. The S1 specials had their moments, but it felt like a collab for the sake of a collab. Very little girl-on-girl action, with their big star Saika even choosing to leave the group sex scenes.
Yes, people would love to see Saika Kawakita get it on with say Ichika Matsumoto even if it never happens. I would also like to see more creative themes used too. The recent Miru x Yume collab was interesting because it was a Drama which is rarer to see in collabs. These are selfish requests and most won’t be fulfilled, but I want JAV studios. Give me S1 girls in Momotaro’s Slut Wagon series, give me Mio Ishikawa getting frisky with Rei Kamiki, and give me Beauty Venus 9! Do any of that, and I promise you the fans will show up.
