Nao Masaki Interview with Revolver Head Summary

Once again, we dive through some old interviews in JAV. This time, we are looking into one from 2022 with Revolver Head (now known as Wonderful Neighbor). Here, the host talks to JAV directing extraordinaire Nao Masaki. The actress-turned-director has become one of the best creators in JAV today. Nao started directing in 2008 after quitting acting as an actress and specializes in videos with slutty women in charge. About 70% slut, 20% lesbian, the rest being new half/trans and she does quite a bit of pegging stuff too. Since then, she has shot around 500-600 films (at the time) by her estimate, with 10 or so titles a month. Which isn’t all that much, and she admits that she could be working more, but opts for a more relaxed work-life balance.

Nao’s Directing Philosophy

“Good nympho is one in which the girl feels good and comes a lot”

Nao believes a good slut derives pleasure from her play. She has to feel good about making others feel good, and that is what Nao wants to teach/pass on to others. Nao likes showing the man’s experience, his pleasure from the woman. She talks about how there are two types of AV directors: those who let the actor’s voice be as loud as they want and those who tell the actors to be quiet. Nao sees herself as the former.

And this philosophy also extends to her camerawork, as she likes to have the cameraman pull and pan to the actor during scenes. The phrase "Holding back is evil!" is written on her scripts and applies to both the men and women. If she feels they are holding back, she will call “cut” and say something about it.

Then they talk about a few titles starting with HMN-100 with Asuka Momose. Hon Naka wanted to do a slut video from the woman’s perspective and wanted to include Nao’s real life experiences in it. So she approached the film as if she would train a guy with lots of input from the actress Asuka Momose. A good devilish slut with good adlibbing skills by Nao’s words but also poor at remembering directions. Nao had her use an older style of speech as a senior speaking down to a junior, which was troublesome for Asuka. Asuka proposed a scene where she would squirt all over the actor as he laps it all up, where she then responded by saying:

“Don't think you can become mine just from drinking it.”

Which is a hot as hell line and perfectly in line with Nao’s type of femdom sluts. It’s interesting to hear that actresses and directors collaborate to make the scene together.

“Three Days Nagisa Mitsuki Shirato Hana Who Was Caught In Close Contact With Two Friends Who Reunited In The Countryside”

Next is Cjod-331 with Hana Shirato and Mitsuki Nagisa, another favorite of the host. Nao finds it harder to direct these cuter type girls like Mitsuki and Hana. Who are unlike her, though these two excelled in the slut role. In these group titles, she says it is important to get the girls comfortable with each other, as even JAV actresses can get shy. The more they get along, the more relaxed they are, and the better the video.

She likes to call them over separately at times and talk to them and encourage them. In this case, she went to Mitsuki, the more senior actress, and told her to pull Hana along and take more of a lead. On Mitsuki, Nao says that she is serious about the work and spends a lot of time with the script. On Hana, she calls her still a newcomer but very skilled already, and praises her strap-on skills.

Getting Better Means Loving Sex

They talk about how actresses improve and what it takes. Nao points out that there first needs to be a desire to change, then a sense of competition between others, and finally a love of sex. However, some actresses are naturals, and some even will ignore what Nao says and do things their way. Which she will let happen as long as it’s erotic and good. One actress who comes to mind was Aika Yamagishi.

Aika is prone to forgetting the direction as the sex gets going, and Nao calls her a wild mare of a woman. For example, one scene had Aika playing with a guy during some foreplay, and Nao wanted the sex to start, so they handed Aika a condom. Only for Aika to toss the condom back at her and continue because she was not done playing.

Nao was surprised and thought it was cool, as if Aika was saying she’ll start when she wants to, and this was very late in the day too, after midnight. But Nao likes girls with initiative, and it made for a genuinely hot scene. This all tracks with our last interview summary in the director roundtable, where they talked about Aika as being an untamable woman who needs little coaching or direction. She has certainly built up a reputation behind the scenes. As an Aika fan, this is just another reason to like her.

The host says it feels like newbies and debuts are coming into JAV with better skills now than ever. Nao says that the whole be gentle to the idol thinking is easing up, so that might be a part of it. Additionally, there is also more competition between girls as they are now comparing themselves to the best sellers and hottest names on the charts. Studying them to find out what’s making them so popular.

She compares them to girls her day, where actresses would show up tired and hungover, and a few even lost their lunch during filming. During her days, actresses partied hard, going from party to party on payday. Nowadays, girls are more serious about JAV as a career and want to be successful, so they are more professional. So that means taking better care of themselves, improving their skills, and making for higher quality smut. Though Nao does miss the freer and looser days of old.

Men get less instruction than compared to women. Nao tells them to let their voices out, look their partners in the eye, talk back to them, and also to have fun. She doesn’t care for male actors who are too showy or too professional. She likes genuine feeling performances rather than a well-staged one. Like Toru Ozawa an older man who can take the lead or take it up the ass, as he can be both dom or sub. She says he is good at laying himself bare for the scene and is usually a sub in her movies. Also fun fact: he buys the films he performs in.

Male Pleasure and Nipple Madness

They talk a bit about male pleasure. Nao thinks guys are exploring their own pleasure more today. In different ways from the norm, like with nipple licking (Samoari smiles), and how newer actors are open to pegging. She wants to do more films on male pleasure, dry orgasms, etc, and even wants to start a fan club to teach others. Looking at her recent videos, she is certainly making lots of pegging videos now.

And I agree with Nao, as I thought Minami was good in my debut review. Sadness creeps in again as Minami is also MIA. Finally, Nao talks up an old vet with Chitose Yuki, aka Chitose Saegusa. A buxom babe who is apparently a very free spirit behind the scenes. On set, it’s not uncommon for her to mess around with the others and she likes to press up her big tits on the staff as a joke (lucky ducks). She reminds Nao of the more casual days of the AV industry.

An emotionally intense title that has Yumika do a bit more acting than usual, while at the same time giving us that trademark wild nympho. A bit of a curveball from both of these ladies, this is an interesting watch for fans of both.

Finally we get her bread and butter a classic slut title with a group of devilish sluts. Really fun with the whole cast pulling their weight and all in schoolgirl outfits. This is a visually delightful video with lots of vibrant colors and lights. They make economical use of their cast, too, splitting them up so as to not flood you with all four at the same time too much. A great group video with all four playing great little sluts.

A very interesting interview from a great director today. I’m always happy to see her name on a title, and for good reason, as Nao has made some of the best smut in JAV. Hearing about how they collaborate for a scene was insightful, as was all the little tidbits about actresses. Really, I think she’s such a good director because she tries to get her actresses comfortable and also enjoy it. One feeds into the other, and it just all heightens the quality of performances.
