Once upon a time--ages ago now depending on how one keeps time--underground JAV was producing some pretty big budget releases. The golden age I'd peg between 2010 and 2014 though it could be stretched as far as late 2016 if we only factor in casting, less plots. The biggest examples of thinking outside of the box surely were when DREAMROOM gave nearly free reign to legendary V&R director KAORU ADACHI whom went near wild with counting a trilogy beginning with today's update and concluding later this month released five (to my knowledge) intense flicks that really saw JAV climbing way out of the box.

First there was A FUCKWORK ORANGE followed in short order almost simultaneously by WARD OF DARKENED ILLUSIONS, THE SECRET PRISON, THE FEMALE BODY REJUVENATION SEX CULT, and lastly, BLACK MAGIC WARD. These are all odd movies to say the least and while to some extent being contained within the same cinematic universe may be a valid claim, they can be watched in any order.

At its face value, even I was confused about just how BLACK MAGIC WARD may be different. It really does seem to be a rehash of WARD OF DARKENED ILLUSIONS featuring a similar cast and seemingly shot in the same place. A big variance comes from a bigger focus here on anal sex which somehow advances a story that combines the occult in ways normally not seen in adult video and by "adult video" I'm talking not just about JAV, but worldwide. This one's different and to be honest, even I'm at a loss as how to best describe what happens in a way that makes sense while avoiding spoilers (OK, so most everyone has sex and often through the back-door).

This is probably as far form the norm as it gets. BLACK MAGIC WARD caps up a really unique run of movies and perhaps we'll see more again like it in the future. Though for now, DREAMROOM is focusing more on more bread-and-butter affair and KAORU ADACHI even at 70 also is focusing on more bread-and-butter affair though for him, it's with heavy focus on output.
