The Future of The ZENRA JAV Blog...

Published : October 1st, 2025 Written by ZENRA

Thank you all for continuing to regularly visit our blog, the only English language resource reporting not only on JAV news and gossip, but providing daily unique pieces that cover everything from detailed sales reports to performer retrospectives and analyses, new movie reviews, field reports, and more. If it’s JAV, we have covered it, are covering it...and WILL keep on covering it.

However, after five years of being an entirely free entity with zero ads and only minimal upsells to our paysite, due to economic conditions we now have three choices to decide from:

  1. 1. Start reducing article output or possibly letting writers go. Our blog like the paysite is 100% human content by real people being paid to consistently put out quality work. We DO NOT use AI.
  2. 2. Litter the site with totally invasive ads from piracy-supporting ad networks for sites, goods, and services 99% of our user base (rightly) has no interest in.
  3. 3. Paywall.

We are going with the third option, but it will be a METERED paywall. To put it simply, users not logged in can access fifteen (15) articles* each month as can logged in users who have no active subscriptions and/or have not made any purchases within the past 30 days. In other words, a “new” user can access fifteen (15) articles*, create an account, and access another fifteen (15) before hitting the paywall.

*subject to change based on continued observation and testing.

If you love our work and truly—really, truly—can’t afford to support us financially, we got you covered: simply write thoughtful comments as each time a comment is approved, the limit resets.

The blog thus will remain online and the output will remain unchanged. However, unless you truly are in a bad financial situation, if you are a fan of JAV and make use of JAV often (such as visiting our blog multiple times a month), then your periodic financial support now more than ever would be very much appreciated.

And I will conclude this post by answering probably the most common question those may already be itching to type in the comment box:

“OK, I love JAV, but the ZENRA paysite doesn’t have my favorite studios and actresses so what’s the point?”

My answer:

“You can still support by (preferred) keeping a subscription active or (less preferred but still generous) simply periodically buying content—any content. For example, if you are a fan of Suzu Honjo and/or other SOD Star performers like Rei Kamiki, buying any of our Soft on Demand updates means the studio still gets paid.”

If there are any more questions, concerns, criticisms, etc., please feel free to let us know in the comment box below.

So you only benefit from SOD? what about the other studios you have videos from?.
i left a site because it did not have enough pantyhose sex content. Are you looking to expand into this area?
Finally, i do enjoy SOD videos. Please keep up the good work.
ZENRA 2 weeks ago
SOD is just an example. We work with many studios.

I saw this article just now, and I made an account to comment. I wanted to say that I really enjoy the thoughtful writing that goes into the blog posts. The use of visuals, charts and cleverly organized writing makes it informative and interesting. I'm usually not one for commenting, but I suppose if it that's how I can show support, I can try to be a bit more vocal. Thanks!

Thank you very much. I agree and this is why people probably visit the blog often: not for the PR material that can be found most anywhere, but the actual human- made creative output that goes alongside it.

I've enjoyed reading articles, or should I say opinions. But in the future I'll have to be more focused on the aspects that really interest me. So if I want to read about, say, Nao Haruna but have to sit through lots of, for me, uninteresting views on her bosom sisters/competitors, then I shall have to pass. I am otherwise happy to see an image/cover, but you don't have to show videos that, I would imagine, account for much of your expenses. We all know what Hitomi, Okita, Hikari Nagi et al look like in their videos...some of us would prefer to forget though. Whereas with a newcomer, who may not even have a full video out yet, that's where a 30-second video comes in handy.

Per the blog (and really the entire site), the bandwidth costs are not a big deal. The real expenses (for the blog) come in the form of paying writers as everything posted is original, not AI junk, but pieces crafted by real people.

I always enjoy the blog and am happy to support it how I can.

Going to miss seeing those articles

Speaking a bit frankly, if one has the time to view twenty or so articles a month on our site and somehow does not even have the time to periodically give a little back even in the form of a quick decent comment if financial contributions are not possible, then that user not coming back will not concern us much.

I can't read a single article, with OR without an account. I can't even read this article in full! It cuts off after *subject to change after.. line.

By any chance are you using a private window? We detect them and they see the limit message by default. However, we are aware this is an issue for logged in users in a private window and will be rolling out a fix tomorrow. Otherwise, please ensure you are browsing the site in a regular window to see content.
randibradar 1 month ago
Yup that was it, thank you.

No problem.

Can you elaborate on what is meant by a good comment
ZENRA 1 month ago
If it takes less than thirty seconds to write, then it's probably not good. Basically at least one or two sentences. We're pretty lenient and are aware not everyone is a native English speaker. Thus, good grammar, punctuation, etc is not necessarily a requirement.

I tried 2 new account and still can't access this blog , if i cannot view this blog, i don't know the instructions to view other blog
ZENRA 1 month ago
This may be because you already hit the limit with the first account. We don't allow users to create additional accounts to get around the limit.

Please login with the first account and if you wish to see more blog content, you may do as the post above notes (subscribe, make a purchase (including simply funding the bare minimum to your site wallet), or simply leaving a comment though the latter only resets the limit while the former two give unlimited access for certain periods of time.

what do you want me to buy, and how does it affect what I can read?

Please review the blog post above which answers your questions in great detail. If anything is unclear, please let me know.

Dear admin, i still can't read the blog, even though I've logged in.
ZENRA 1 month ago
Hello, this should be resolved over the weekend/beginning of the week. Your account was made a few days ago and may have been one of the few that got caught in a bug. You should be able to make a new account now and read articles as I just tested this shortly ago and had no issues (not logged in -> viewed a number of blog articles -> reached limit -> made account -> could view articles again).
りゅうこう 1 month ago
Already login with my email but still cannot fully read the blog.
ZENRA 1 month ago
Please try again now and tell me if that did the trick.

Update: there may be an issue with some older accounts being hit with the over-limit message right away. We're looking into it and it should be resolved by the weekend. It was not intentional to hit any account immediately with an over-limit message so our apologies about that.
りゅうこう 1 month ago
Still didn't work. I probably wait until this weekend is over and see if the issue is resolved. Thank you.
ZENRA 1 month ago
According to our developers, this issue plus a few other user improvements/misc. bugs have been fixed. The patch I am told will be deployed this weekend or the beginning of next week. Sorry again about the inconvenience.

Hey how do i read blog even after login i can't view this fully?
ZENRA 1 month ago
Hello, it looks like you were trying to login incorrectly a handful of times with a username instead of your email. Perhaps that is why? If not, it's always possible there could be a bug we are not aware of. If you can contact support and provide more information, that would be appreciated and if indeed it is a new bug, we'll give you some wallet funds.
ZENRA-User-247966 1 month ago
Thanks for the update. It makes sense and is a good path forward, but I couldn't read the full update due to being locked out.

Just found this blog through reddit funnily enough. Definitely appreciate the good work you guys do. I understand the need for limits on posts.

How do I read blogs? I can't even read this blog - which explains the new rules - even though I am logged in
ZENRA 1 month ago
It looks like you reached the article limit which can be removed among other ways by writing a good/thoughtful comment once approved by us (which we just did).

However, we have exception rules in place for certain posts like this one that can still be viewed in full by users even when reaching the limit. I just tested that as well with an over-limit test account and this post displays in full while other pages show the over limit message.

If you hit the limit again and somehow cannot see this post, please contact us and we can look into it further.
7hegoat 1 month ago
I haven't been able to access any blogs since the new system. My account has been auto flagged as exceeding the blog limit immediately.
ZENRA 1 month ago
If this is in relation to an older account, it is an issue we are aware of and it should be fixed tomorrow.
ZENRA-User-173772 1 month ago
Bummed to not be able to access the blog. The content is awesome and I really appreciate the work you guys do. I typically read your reviews and then watch on other sites— would you consider a low monthly subscription to just have full access to the blog without access to the videos?
ZENRA 1 month ago
Per a low monthly subscription, we were considering it, but a 'blog supporter' would probably not be that popular given all our other options.

After all, as for the cheapest way to get unlimited blog viewing, all one needs to do is fund the minimum amount to one's site wallet: $3 USD.

I can understand this dilemma. It's a tough choice to make but, in the end, I think it was the right one. Even mainstream magazines and newspaper have article limits for free users and the limits you guys decided on are not as restrictive as some others online. That said, I'm little concerned about whether this will hurt your marketing, and ultimately subscriber counts and financial solvency. I found (and subscribed to) Zenra through the blog and I'd be willing to be that others do too. Hopefully search engines and other places that pick up the Zenra blog roll will still be able to do so often enough that results will roll to the top and help more people find (and subscribe to) Zenra. I don't know much about your business model and maybe this won't even be an issue but, as a non-Japanese speaking JAV fan, I'd hate to lose access to what you guys do. I'll keep paying for Zenra as long as I can still pay for food and housing so I'm in it for the long haul no matter.
ZENRA 1 month ago
Thank you for the kind words.

It probably (and so far) has zero negative effect on traffic and ranking most likely due to the limits being pretty generous. Like all sites that make use of metered paywalls, we are observing the 'stop' rate and ensuring it stays quite low (around 5% or so). In other words, very casual users--the majority of blog users--will see zero changes. Only the users who visit multiple times a month and are consuming a multiple articles each visit may be blocked until they subscribe/buy/comment.
Hiryu 1 month ago
It's unfortunate that this was ultimately the decided on direction moving forward. But I'm going to keep an open mind about it.

P.S. Long time follower here, but this is my first real comment on the blog. XD
Ramp_it_up 1 month ago
kinda sucks with this direction, but there's no engagement in the site like before, and also didn't you post on Akiba Online
ZENRA 1 month ago
No other choice, sorry. While I was younger, paying for things I tried to avoid unless absolutely necessary, but with age, I see the value of supporting things I enjoy--be it a newspaper or yes, even a blog like this if one is visiting it regularly. :)

But as noted, users who are unable to support financially can just write decent comments as anytime a comment is approved, the limit is reset. Hence our metered paywall is a bit more lenient if a user wishes to volunteer a few minutes of their time instead of their wallets.

After verifying your age, $3 USD site balance bonus will be sent to your email inbox.

Recently a number of US states and a few countries of note have enacted age verification requirements for adult sites. On the US front at least, legal experts both within and outside of our industry do not believe any will pass a constitutional test. However, since these laws currently are on the books and thus have the ability to be enforced, we are choosing to comply with them at this point in time.

ZENRA uses Bluecheck.me, a third party verification service, to perform this important task easy to install filtering software does infinitely better.

Information used in the verification process is not stored on our servers. Phone number and address verification is instant and uses database cross referencing (no calls, no SMS messages, nothing mailed to the address). ID verification takes about one minute and is performed 'blind' on Bluecheck's side where the ID is reviewed by someone unaware of what service the submitter is attempting to access.

Regardless of what method you choose, it costs you nothing, but does increase the cost of our operations in order to somehow make the internet a 'safer' place.
