Oppaira's 2024 JAV Debut Review Roundup - 1 Year Later

Hey guys, Oppaira here. It's been a year since all the lovely 2024 debuts burst onto the scene, and as usual I'm here to check up on them. Are any of them worth watching still? Have any left the industry? Let's find out shall we.

I like to start these with an overview to see where debuts are at. Looking at this we see most of the debuts are still active, quite a healthy number at over 80% still active. That’s actually down compared to what we saw in 2023 (we were at almost 90%) but sometimes I feel like taking chances is better.

Most interesting is that I have actual identical numbers on never watched again and still watching compared to 2023. So that is, the same number of actresses caught my eye, so the only shift between the two years is just in the retirement numbers vs actresses I naturally stopped caring for. Either way, healthy numbers across the board with plenty to watch.

Miki Mihama’s retirement definitely stings the most. Even though I only got around to watching her once, that was just a matter of circumstance. She went from being extremely promising to out of Madonna to out of the industry just half a year after the video I watched came out. It’s a good thing the year had a few other big names because I’d be bummed if she was a top one checkout out so early.

Nozomi Shirahama retiring also felt a little sad. Part of that is Idea Pocket losing their busty actress Himeka and me wanting a replacement, even if Nozomi was not really going to fill that void. Another part was just the bad circumstances of it, where she had some botched surgery that ended her career. I get wanting to go under the knife but I also think that you don’t really need to most of the time, or at least that actresses tend to do more than they need to. Maybe this can serve as a lesson to lighten up a bit there.

Toa Kiyomiya turned out to not be quite as good as I thought she would. I don’t know what it is about her but she’s falling a bit short for me. There are some decent enough videos and there are some decent enough performing skills there, but somehow there’s always something holding a video back. Maybe I’m just not as interested in Toa as I thought I would be, I know I certainly don’t find her as attractive as others do (she’s still attractive just not crazy attractive). I haven’t stopped watching her but she isn’t keeping up with what I would expect for an A tier actress.

Even more so Mitsuri Nagahama feels like someone who is actually overrated. Every time I watch her videos I feel like they’re getting worse and worse. I had really, really high hopes for her because of how attractive she is but damn, I always feel like it’s a letdown. I see videos that are fine enough and I just have lost a lot of desire to watch her but it’s always a disaster. I’m not necessarily convinced I won’t watch her again, but she’s trending downward and I don’t see her competing with the other favourites of mine for the top tier spots, especially after getting an S ranking from me.

I had really high hopes for Jun Megami and she’s really starting to blossom. My second watch of her was a little underwhelming but since then she’s had back to back banger films that are really doing her justice. She’s proving to me she might be one of the strongest performers and it feels like the sky’s the limit here. I’m still not the biggest fan of Faleno but Jun is carrying them quite well at the moment.

Kanae Yumemi also seems to be doing quite well for herself. Tameike Goro seems to have a bunch of mediocre releases but they pick one or two actresses that they give lots of good stuff to. Right now that seems to be Kanae who has gotten a handful of really nice releases. I’m still praying she’ll go double exclusive somewhere, maybe Wanz Factory or Slut Heaven to balance out the more mature stuff TG produces. Regardless, Kanae continues to impress me and maybe there’s a world where she exceeds her second tier ranking.

Marina Yakuno is doing extremely well for herself. While she was only my runner up for dark horse pick she has been probably outperforming everyone else so far, at least if I’m factoring in my expectations. There’s a reason she ended up a dark horse pick and she has really started to find her own. Who knows exactly where she will end up a year from now, it kind of depends on how well IP capitalizes on her. She just had one of her best releases yet and I think keeping up on that will produce some great results.

Ayu Anzai is seriously underperforming. I had high hopes with her being my type but then damn she just sort of fell off a cliff or something. Is there hope still? I really don’t think so. I really expect me to never watch her again and just be sad that someone with such a fantastic body is just not utilized at all.

Sara Futaba is much the same way where she really didn’t turn out the way I expected her to. It’s not crazy to me that someone with 110K cup boobs could show up somewhere decent, right? She’s even cute to boot! I feel like the industry saw something I didn’t, or maybe didn’t see the same thing I did, because she’s ended up basically nowhere these days. A random Slut Heaven video with SamoAri is seemingly the best thing she’s had in a while, minus perhaps the lesbian alongside Mizuki Yayoi. I’m just bummed she isn’t worth watching and I really don’t see that changing.

Yu Tano is easily one of my favourites and how could she not be. Where I saw someone cute with big tits she turned out to be that spunky character I hoped she would. She has an awesome personality across social media that makes me excited for anything Yu. While Yu has partially been victim to S1 doing S1 things she’s still getting enough views from me and I’m still excited to keep watching her.

Iyo Shinohara has proven to be everything I hoped for and more. I don’t know if it’s a MILF buff or a milk buff but god damn has she been great. I’ve been watching her a ton, plenty of great stuff coming out of her (pun intended). She certainly has some up and down months because of Madonna, and I didn’t even watch the mega films since there were a bunch I had never seen. She’s definitely been able to keep the lactation up, and while it’s not the kind of stuff I’ve come to love in that genre from the past, it’s certainly enough to place her in this top spot.

Himari has undoubtedly been one of my favourites. Look, she has humungous boobs and she can perform? I don’t think a single person on the planet would be surprised at this rating. If I had to put a negative just to keep her grounded it’s that her face isn’t particularly exciting for me, but hey, big boobs solve all problems. Seriously, we could end world hunger with those things. Himari keeps getting solid content and I’d be quite excited if she could join Yuria as the doujinshi queen, she certainly has the talent for it.

One of the most interesting things I see with this year of debuts is how many seem to be doing well in my books. In other years I tend to see a much more pronounced top group. If I look at 2023 it’s very obvious who my top three are but more than that, I don’t see any competition for them. If I expand back out to 2022 I see six actresses that I care(d) about and everyone else has completely fallen off. Yes, I know who I picked for my top actresses, but it could just as easily have been someone else with a good release.

I found it very interesting when comparing to 2023 because I saw significantly more data for the top group of actresses. It’s already a 25% increase from 2023 in terms of pure review count but I know Nami Okimiya and Sayuri Hayama benefitted a lot from the Madonna mega videos so their numbers were inflated (that is, I watched those videos for other actresses not particularly them). If you were to exclude those it’d be 33% increase which is a staggering number.

I also see us getting a lot of great busty debuts which is my bread and butter. If I go back to 2020 for example, we have really just Hikari Nagi that debuted and stuck to a major roster among the 8 actresses I reviewed at 100cm+ bust sizes. In 2024 I’ve got a staggering 16 I reviewed at 100cm+ bust and have 6 at major studios (assuming you count E-Body as a major studio). Don’t even mind if we compare back to 2021, it was just 3 and none of them are at major studios right now. Some people don’t like this kind of statistical analysis but I do and it’s really showing. It’s not just that they found busty actresses, they found ones that were high quality.

2024 was another fantastic year and it seems like that’s the trend with debut years these days. Multiple actresses just really crushing it. I do think that to some degree this is due to the quality of busty actresses we’ve been seeing but it just generally feels like there’s a resurgence in debut quality. We’re also seeing trends that look like they will carry over this year as well, and I’ll have to remember to check back in a year and see if it did.
