JAV Battle: Bath or Love Hotel? Part 2

One of the crucial aspects of the love hotel is its dedication to both privacy and intimacy. Compare this to a bath where there's the risk of others noticing and/or joining in, a love hotel removes that variable and focuses solely on those who enter into this passionate space. Once the doors close, things are usually kept solely to those characters who entered. This isolation offers up a very different energy and viewing experience (most the time anyway), at least when compared to baths. There's no fear of being interrupted or caught by other bathers, instead, everything that happens is intentional.

Compared to baths, a love hotel usually isn't as flashy or atmospherically pleasing. There's no beautiful rock formation or the glory of nature to bask in, it's usually just a more luxurious-looking apartment. Yes, it might not be as impressive as a bath, but that in itself can be a strength - love hotels are a more neutral space that allow for a wide amount of fetishes the JAV creators can choose at their own discretion. Any kind of fetish could take place in a love hotel and it could be believable, as the purpose of love hotels is for couples to enjoy a romantic time together, and if they prefer doing x thing, then it can be considered believable.

Another strength of love hotels is their believable nature. Love hotels are a normal and accepted thing in Japanese culture, so there's no need for an elaborate story to justify having a love hotel in a JAV. Some JAV tend to push unrealistic scenarios for the sake of catering to the watcher's fantasies, and that's okay (even western porn does it), but a realistic lens can make a JAV feel more relatable - as if this is something that could happen to the watcher in reality. That adds a personal twist that some might find more interesting. Especially compared to western porn where the acting is exaggerated and the scenarios are so clearly deliberate and staged, having the opportunity to witness something more grounded in reality when it comes to sex is definitely a nice breath of fresh air.

I've talked about how love hotels are more private and "bland" due to them being a lot like the usual living setting, but this also helps when it comes to the actress. By having the setting matter less, there's a greater focus on the actress - I personally think this is a good thing, as the actress is the main way watchers find pleasure in a JAV. The actress is free to unleash all her charms and quirks, and watchers will focus entirely on them and not necessarily be focused on the fetishes present or the environment. I mean, if the actress makes a cute face when she plays with a guy's dick, or has a really warm smile, watchers will be able to focus on those traits and not on say, whether or not a bystander at the bath is going to join in for an orgy.

Like I covered already, love hotels themselves are usually incredibly simple and add little to the actual scene. There's usually no degree of tension or risk, and it doesn't create any sort of fantasy. Compared to baths which immediately introduce vulnerability and risk, the love hotel instead shifts attention onto the actresses and the specific scenario to entertain the audience. If things fail to arouse the watcher, then the setting won't be saving the scene.

On top of that, when it comes to atmosphere and appearance, the love hotel is also (usually) very standard. Compared to an onsen with its steam, outdoors element, the wetness etc., love hotels are way too ordinary. Hotels may be a little more extravagant than your standard house/apartment, but it's still lackluster compared to an onsen. As a result of this, a lot of love hotel scenes in JAV are often forgettable and redundant, with only the look of the rooms being slightly different being the saving grace. I do think this is a shame, and that there are ways to help spice things up and make love hotels a bit more eventful: rooms in the hotel could be themed for example. Maybe there's a bondage room, or a Halloween-themed room. In the very least, these rooms could help add to the scene rather than just being a plain backdrop. Every element in a scene matters, and for the environment to play almost no role is really kind of a waste of potential.
